This book was such a joy to read. I haven't read many thrillers but this is by far the best of those I have. I didn't believe that I would be super interested in a book about mountain climbing, and had more so picked it up because of the murder mystery aspect, but even before the murder story began I was hooked on just the experience of mountain climbing and mental extertion itself. Honestly I could have read the whole book about a first time climber facing one of the tallest peaks in the world as a thriller without the murdering and enjoyed it just as well.

The author does a great job of immersing you in the setting and I loved the excerpts of the MCs writings and drafts throughout her month long summitting experience. I also loved having this cast of characters in the team. I "solved" the mystery AKA pinned the killer very early on but the quality of the story didn't depend on this reveal at all. Seeing everything come together little by little for the MC as she was discovering the murderer was just as enthralling. The action and the urgency at the climax of the story was perfectly done and the ending was really great too.
