Crossed was devastatingly brilliant, the plot was strong and heavy, the characters felt more "real" than some of the others in the series, it was definitely the darkest of the Never after series with how graphic everything was and the level of pure shame felt by these characters.
I loved it, but I do think the last couple of chapters were a little too condensed it was hard to catch a breath.

“I need to erase what any other man has made her feel. To ruin her for even God until the only one she can pray to is me.”

The way I would let Father Cade baptize me with his holy water.

I think this may be my favorite so far of the series. Cade is such a tortured soul and I loved Amaya. That poor girl has truly suffered, but still does everything she can to make sure Quin, who is her autistic little brother has the best life he can have in their circumstances. I didn’t think this was as spicy as the others I’ve listened to, but when it hit, it was good! This was more focused on the tension and their relationship being forbidden and “I want you, but I can’t have you” build up.

- Hunchback of notre dame
- Taboo romance
- Exotic dancer x priest
- Serial killer
- Tortured hero
- Stalking/voyeurism
- Calls her “ma petite pécheresse” (my little sinner)
- Disability rep
- Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5

TW: SA to FMC (not by MMC), Animal cruelty mentioned, self harm

This was dark and twisted. The Hunchback of Notre Dame inspiration was really strong. Amaya was a strong female character and I really appreciated that her character was written in a way that was unapologetic for doing what she had to do to take care of her brother. Cade was something else..  my man needs a LOT of therapy. His inner struggles were written really well. Quinten was the shining light in this book that was much needed as a step away from the darkness. His character was so sweet and pure. Overall the strong focus on religion was a bit much for my personal taste but the book was really well written and the story was strong! Looking forward to the next book after catching the clue!!

This book was wildddddd, a priest and a stripper?? I was shocked. While listening I did some double takes I swear the tension had me in a chokehold.

I did not expect the plot twist in chapter 45 and also the reaction was out of the blue. I love how there are strong character developments in this book.

Overall the plot was well written, but sometimes it was too cringe tbh, just because its between two different worlds that meet and clash.

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would! It had a lot of those “darkly enjoyable” moments, and I am a sucker for priests.

Unfortunately, the one thing to make it not a 4 or a 5, is the way Amaya becomes a killer at the end. I just don’t think that tracked with her character, yet the writing tries to tell us it’s in her blood. But aside from killing/hurting for her brother, there’s no reason she’d continue to murder, in my opinion. So that little bit knocked the whole book down a little, for me.

This one was a little gory for me personally. Also, I’m sorry but both of these main characters are off their rockers. It’s just a bit too fucked up IMHO.

DARK Romance, Stalking, 3 1/2 🔥
