I wanted to like this book--it sounds so clever and funny--but I just didn't care at all.

I'm in two minds about cozy mysteries, they're a bit twee for me, and this book looked like a cozy but turned out not to be, which was good. I'd also been looking for my next mystery after finishing all the Montalbano books by Andrea Camilleri and I was wondering whether this series might be it. It's very different to the Montalbano books, and written by a German so it has different sensibilities. I actually enjoyed the jokes (we have similar ones in Portugal) and the flights of whimsy, that some of the other reviewers didn't like. The book was a bit uneven in style, and I did tire of hearing the nephew/ narrator say, "what Aunti Poldi told me when I visited in September". Overall an enjoyable enough read that I will be buying the next in the series.

Not as good as I was hoping, but at least it was free! Thank you Amazon Prime!

Auntie Poldi is quite the character, full of life, drama, and eccentricity. After a murder takes place, Auntie Poldi tries to solve the mystery, while becoming involved with the inspector on the case. The story is told by her nephew, and is a fun filled romp.

This is some kind of italian/german Miss Marple but with a funny and colorful personality investigating a murder case in the sunny and passionate Sicily. It has suspense, friendship, attractive people and a beautiful surrounding, presenting a small piece of history - all the ingredients which I look for in a novel

A quirky mystery, with the unique, zany character of Poldi at the centre of it. Cute, entertaining, not really a page-turner, more a colorful, meandering story.
