Better than 3 but not quite a 4-star. Great characters, beautiful setting, well written. I’ll read the next in the series for sure.

Picked up this book for a break after reading several very intense books. It was a welcome change and a charming little mystery.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

Fun and hilarious first book in a series translated from German to English. I love Poldi as a character. Mr. Giordano writes a very layered, mature, sexy woman who suffers from depression and a broken heart. The story is told through the eyes of Poldi's nephew who is trying to become a writer.

The mystery is okay but what made this book shine was the unique characters and Italy as one of them.

Recommend.

Anyone who enjoys a glass of crisp Prosecco before noon is fine by me.

It takes place in Sicily, but was originally written in German, so perhaps the translation hindered my ability to get into it right away. But by chapter 8 I was hooked. This quirky, charming mystery will make you wish you were in Sicily with Auntie Poldi. She is smart, sassy and so much fun! I'd love to be her sidekick. Where do I sign up?

Three and a half stars. I really enjoyed thd book. The characters were likeable and the plot was fun.

I'm not sure that I liked the translator as much.

I really wanted to read this since it just sounded so good but something was lost in translation for me along the way.
I thought this was going to be an edge of your seat mystery, but it was not. There was no tension or buildup everything just happened and there was no surprise. The characters were just all so drab and there were a lot of words and phrases in Italian that was annoying and didn't add a whole lot to the story.
I also did not like the way the story was narrated, it was a third person telling the story but at times it seemed like it was first person which was confusing on why the author did it that way. I think it would have been more effective if the story was told first person, it just seemed like a mess. At the end of the story it definitely left the door open for a sequel but I would not pick that one up since this one seemed like it was never going to end. The only good thing about this book is the cover which I really liked.

This was a silly romp of a murder mystery novel. People expecting a tightly plotted Ms. Marple style sleuthing might be disappointed, but I greatly enjoyed the adorable, overwhelming mess of a woman that is Auntie Poldi and the adorable, overwhelming mess of a novel that is this book. It gave me a big hankering for Sicilian food!

Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions is absolutely delightful. Reading this book felt like a mini-vacation to Sicily, full of colorful characters and all the twists and turns I crave in a mystery. Auntie Poldi is a 60 year old widow who has retired to Sicily, where she makes quick work of becoming the town's premier amateur detective. She charms most of the town's residents (and me) immediately, with her colorful storytelling, penchant for wine, and signature black wig. I hope future books in this series are translated into English so I can keep following her story!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I wasn't sure about the writing style, but Aunt Poldi is such a character that I soon got over it. Looking forward to more of her adventures.

What a fun and quirky mystery! I loved the character of Auntie Poldi and really enjoyed the story
