I liked the historical elements to this short story and the inventive solution which the protagonist came up with to protect her people and her lands. It was also interesting to read Gail Carriger's first professional sale and reflect on how her writing style has evolved and how her short form differs to her long form.

Do you guys remember the Book of Virtues show? Maybe it was a Christian kid thing, but they basically showed cartoon versions of favorite stories. That's how I first heard the Gift of the Magi, Androcles and the Lion, all that good stuff.

That's kind of how I pictured this story. It's almost a cartoon version of a historical short story. A little more artistic than a kid's cartoon, but definitely truncated and simplified. I actually really enjoyed it. An interesting little short story about a lady warrior recounting how her village fought off the Roman empire with ingenuity and creativity, after violence didn't work. Great story.

Fun but not brilliant, I enjoyed this (really quite) short story from Gail Carriger as I continue to work my way through her back catalogue. Not my time period at all (Roman era) but still interesting and with slight paranormal hints.

More Romans! This time poisoned by extremely smart, quick thinking Greek warrior women. Love it.

I enjoyed this short story from Carriger. I got into the plot quickly, and loved the action and the way people could be different things regardless of gender.

Tricking the Roman's into eating poison honey: a great way to avoid conquest?

I absolutely love Gail’s amazing tale of warrior women fighting to protect their village from Roman invasion. Tons of feminist girl power and all based on historical fact!

I really enjoyed this book. It was short, sweet and full of honey (both good and bad). It brought together pride, female power and ancient fighting styles. My main criticism was that it just felt too short at times. I would have loved to see this as a slightly longer story to show more of the world but it is a very worthwhile read/listen.

I'm glad Carriger's writing since this story from 1998 has drastically improved, because My Sister's Song is overwhelmingly infodumpy and not at all compelling.
