I LOVED THIS BOOK! is it a 5 star? not QUITE, but it's my favorite emily henry yet.

it follows nora, libby (her little sister), and charlie (her work nemesis). nora's a hard ass, cut throat, literary agent queen. a miranda priestly. this story asks the question - what is THAT kind of character's love story like? libby asks nora to go away with her to small town North Carolina for a month long get away so she can escape her 2 kids for a minute and they can spend some quality time. libby makes a checklist of all these small town things they need to accomplish, including nora dating small town dudes, feeding horses, save a small busineess etc. nora agrees. but little does she know charlie is  FROM there and he is living there to help out his parents. their love blossoms. the other main storyline is between nora/libby and their relationship which is falling on hard times. nora tries so hard to protect libby and libby has basically become resentful of that. so the other half of the book focuses on them finding reconciliation.

i loved this. i loved that nora was a no nonsense bitch and that charlie was a believable broody workaholic as well. the steam was great. i loved the addition of a sister relationship, i think it added greatly to the story. i love that nora didn't have to sacrifice her work (or anything she wanted for her life) in the end, but still got her man. the small town characters were great, the small town setting was great. loved the inclusion of a bookstore. love that the whole book was kind tongue in cheek in the way that it was challenging typical romance tropes. love the font? (always love the font of her books). some things felt a LITTLE contrived or overblown (which is something that's pretty par for the course in all romances), but that's okay. i really hope this gets made into a movie.

WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY SAY????? This book was perfect, I wish I could give it more stars. It has easily become my fave Emily Henry book. It hit all my buttons: nerdy puns, sassy banter, achy longing, hot romance, and a man who loves an unapologetically strong woman just as she is.

Book Lovers took the typical Hallmark formula and dumped it in a bowl, shook it around, asked for MORE, and then put itself on a platter for us. It was clever and made tired tropes unique and fresh that came across more as tongue-in-cheek homage than mocking. Henry's writing is so effortless and funny and heartbreaking.

I love Nora and Charlie. I love them together, I love them separately, I JUST LOVE THEM. The banter between them was INCREDIBLE. I was so excited for ANY scene between them (not just because they're hot...but also yes because they're hot) because I was hungry to see the next way they could possibly out-smart-ass each other.

There were so many aspects of Nora's journey that came together so seamlessly and it felt so fulfilling in the end. I loved her relationship with her sister, I loved how she cared for Dusty and nurtured her creativity, I loved that she didn't have to change who she was and what she valued in order to find her happiness. They all felt genuine and realistic and really pulled me into the book.

I originally pre-ordered it for my kindle, but then immediately ordered a physical copy because I wanted to go through and annotate my favorite parts.

It for sure passed my 'escape test' and will be recommending this book to everyone I ever meet.
