Loved it. I was told to skip the second book and go straight to the third...
My mind has been blown. I can see why Sister Soper said its easy to hate this book but have a burning desire to read it. I hated the book, but loved it at the same time. The ideas are just genius and the book is well written. I decided that this book deserved 5 stars. The way that these children are treated is unbelievable, like they are disposable. This book has the view "sacrifice at any cost." The ending was amazing and I wasn't expecting it in the least, and I found myself trying to figure out what just happened. Orson Scott Card has a twisted but brilliant mind.
Violence: 4- There are some scenes when Ender takes out a few kids and they are a bit graphic. He also has some very vivid ideas about bodily functions being spilled everywhere. It is a bit gruesome at times.
Sex: 1- I don't believe there is any sex in the book.
Drugs/Alcohol: 1- No drugs either
Language: 2- Ok, there was a bit of minor swearing and a whole lot of different ways to use the word "fart" in name calling. For example, Fart sniffer, Fart eater, Fart lover, etc. You get the idea, but these are also ten year old boys so what can you expect?

It is actually quite hard for me to put my opinion of this book into words. The simple version is: I love it. However, I can’t seem to pin down why I love it. I think it’s because I don’t just love a few parts or aspects of the novel, but rather I like everything about it and how it all comes together.
I love the Command School, the Battle Room, the simulator, the futuristic world, the psychology, the characters and the sub-plot (see what I mean?). Orson Scott Card’s vision of the future is very intriguing and the character of Ender is very sympathetic and easy to connect with.
I think my favorite parts of the story are the times that Ender plays, or dreams about, the Fantasy Game. It just sends chills down my spine every time I think about it. Also, I won’t spoil the ending, but it really is amazing.

It’s fascinating to me that the forward was a rather pretentious message about how he wanted the book to be very enjoyable on a surface level while still maintaining deeper meanings for those that want to dive into the text, and then he wrote…that. There are enjoyable elements throughout, but there are also moments of bad characterization, bad writing, and bad plot development. His regressive social views shone through in, frankly, unflattering ways that did the story no favors. When he did hit on something interesting he’d often shy away from really interrogating it. While there were a lot of elements — specifically sci-fi ones — that I was interested in, I can’t say I really liked this book.
This book has done just fine without my recommendation and it’ll continue to do so.

I really enjoy reading this book. The world and plot I thought were very original and the characters were well worked out. The story mostly revolves around Enders training rather than the war. Of course the war is also a big theme because it's the reason for all of this but we don't see much of fighting and the toll war takes on normal civilians. Ender is sort of an outsider but the most genius of geniuses. A lot of things come kind of easy for Ender and that can be kind of annoying but not in this book. That is because Ender is aware of his brilliance and it's not necessarily about him completing the tasks easily. Well it is because that what makes him and his reputation but it's also a lot about his loneliness and the way he treats it and how he feels.
I always love a good mysterious book. You start the book not knowing anything about Ender and his world but it al unravels and all the puzzle pieces fit together in the end. The end I did love. The story doesn't end after the war it continues to tell us what happens with ender afterwards and that was very nice.
Now comes the bad side
In the book all the kids are really really young. Ender is 6 when he starts his training but he behaves like he is 15. Of course he is a genius but it still doesn't make a lot of sense, sometimes it's just easier to ignore his age and just think he's older. Like I said earlier some things just come easy to Ender but not just Ender also with some other characters and with them it was somewhat unrealistic.
Overall I liked the book and enjoyed reading it. Of course it had its flaws but not all books can be perfect.
