Much better than the first book in this series, and while I enjoyed reading it, it wasn't all that great. It's just enjoyable.

This book felt far too similar to the first in the quintet so I lost all desire to finish it.

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Mary Balogh's The Secret Mistress.

New York Times
bestselling author Mary Balogh sweeps us back in time to an age of scandal and glittering society—and brings to life an extraordinary family: the daring, passionate Huxtables. Katherine, the youngest sister—and society’s most ravishing innocent—is about to turn the tables on the irresistible rakehell sworn to seduce her, body and soul....**

In a night of drunken revelry, Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, gambles his reputation as London’s most notorious lover on one woman. His challenge? To seduce the exquisite, virtuous Katherine Huxtable within a fortnight. But when his best-laid plans go awry, Jasper devises a wager of his own. For Katherine, already wildly attracted to him, Jasper’s offer is irresistible: to make London’s most dangerous rake fall in love with her. Then Jasper suddenly ups the ante. Katherine knows she should refuse. But with scandal brewing and her reputation in jeopardy, she reluctantly agrees to become his wife. Now, as passion ignites, the seduction really begins. And this time the prize is nothing less than both their hearts.…

From Booklist

Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, had never lost a wager until he met Katherine Huxtable. But when he bets his friends that he can successfully seduce Katherine, after their first meeting, he not only admits defeat but also patiently listens to Katherine as she verbally decimates his character, then sends him on his way. When the two meet again three years later in London, Jasper finds he is still intrigued with the beguiling Katherine, so he proposes another wager: he will make her fall in love with him. Katherine knows the smart thing to do is to send Jasper away once again, but somehow she finds the idea of romance with a dangerous rake irresistible. After matching up Katherine’s sister Vanessa in First Comes Marriage (2009), Balogh delivers another smartly fashioned love story that will dazzle readers with its captivating combination of nuanced characters, exquisitely sensual romance, and elegant wit. --John Charles

Cute and a fluffer book. Cheesy and romantic, you know, the usual.

No doubt it is entertaining, and I am positive I will continue with the rest of the series, but the whole "wager" thing was annoying me. And for the first time I was actually irritated, to the point that I almost wanted to put the book away. That is a rare feeling for me, and therefore only 2 stars.

My main source of irritation? Did not care much about heavy lidded eyes. Kate seems amiable enough, but the Baron? Couldn't care much about him...

No more Huxtables for me right now... I know Meg still needs a guy, but am sure that in a few months that story would entertain me more than it would right now... Balogh overload!
