Honestly a really cute read. I did have some slight problems following the many characters.

Good mystery with plenty of red herrings. I liked the supporting role the cats play and I hope they will take on greater roles in the series.

The most vanilla protagonist doing the most vanilla things in the most vanilla town. A mysterious death leads to a pretty vanilla detective story.

But it works. I actually found it really enjoyable. I didn't think I would early on but I stuck with it long enough that it got good.

The concept had me hooked, but the transition scenes wore me down. More a 2.5

I liked it alright, but the writing sometimes felt too simplistic for me and I didn't really connect with the main or any of the side characters, so I'm not sure if I'll read more of this series

I began this book already having some misgivings about the series name (A Magical Cats Mystery) but I thought maybe the mystery would be enough to draw me in. However, I should have listened to my instinct, because the mystery plot was just okay, and even a little too easy to solve. The characters were hard for me to relate to as I am so much younger than everyone in the story, and the cats just made it really hard for me to read about. It just was super unbelievable and not my type of book at all. I feel that maybe in a couple decades, and a couple cats later, I might relate to this kind of book just a little more.

Loved the vibes (baked goods, small town, coffee, feral and community cats esp)...the mystery part was okay... and I disliked the ending as it didn't seem like justice to me but that is my opinion. I would likely read another just for the cats and cozy, small town vibes!
