New author for me and I am really looking forward to reading more from her in the future. This was a very well executed debut novel.
The story is told through alternating POV of Molly , the victim’s wife, and Rita , the primary detective on the case. Rita is brought to life so well & written in such a way that you can relate to her on many levels. She is quite likable and I hope to see her potentially investigate in future books too. Molly is not the wisest decision maker in the face of her husband’s death but I think her poor judgment can primarily be attributed to trauma and grief making a mess of her mind.
Overall I thought the pacing was great and the introduction of the intertwined stories was well carried out . The characters, the story and the scenery were all brought to life well by the authors descriptions . This is a book I would definitely recommend to others.

This was a nice and twisty and story that pulled me in from the beginning. Enjoyed it. The widow Molly, is super whiny and is got on my nerves. I know her husband was just murdered, but she is so fragile and annoying, but whatever. Also, apparently no Black people live in Boston, but whatever. This is a very white book. The ending fell apart after something kinda major happens. I elaborate without spoilers so, that’s all I’ll say.

This story was interesting but it moved a little too slow at first. I actually fell asleep a few times listening to this. It finally did pick up and then I listened to the rest (almost) half in one sitting.
