I received an ARC of this book for free and in return, I will give my honest opinion!

A quick side story first... I don't like detective-type books or anything that has one involved in the story.

This book does have a detective's POV and I loved it anyway. I feel like the detectives always have some terrible troubled past/secret and it always makes me want to roll my eyes. I was also worried this was going to be an Agatha Christie "who done it," and while it had a similar theme it was completely different.

I didn't give this book 5 stars because I received it for free - I do want to make that clear.
The 5 stars have a lot to do with the ending and me not having ANY CLUE about what was going to happen.

The character development was amazing and the Plot was also great.

This is a one-of-a-kind Mystery!

You won’t be able to decide who can be trusted in this intensely chilling debut thriller! The creepy cover will entice you and the gripping story will keep you reading to the final page!

Ending up dead can really spoil a party. Molly throws a birthday party for her husband—Jay. The next morning she finds him dead in his office with his throat slit. Jay is a highly-respected psychologist and is adored by his friends. Who would want him dead?

The investigation begins and the police discover that everyone at the party has secrets, including Molly. She thought Jay was the only one that knew hers. He was her protector, supporter, and her rock. She starts receiving phone calls from someone who knows the dark secret of her childhood. A secret she’s tried so hard to keep buried.

Another body is found. This time in the yard of Molly and Jay’s mountain home. Then something is revealed that makes Molly believe her husband has betrayed her. Could Jay have been hiding something?

Sincere thanks to Kensington Books and Terri Parlato for providing this gifted ARC through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

medium-paced

All the Dark Places is an absolute whirlwind, I read it in one sitting because I couldn't force myself to put them down! I loved the characters and found the plot to be engaging and even found myself pleasantly surprised by the ending - and that doesn't happen very often! A great read!

I liked this book, a very mid point for the genre. Enough to enjoy, with minor twists. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the different perspectives was interesting but I didn't feel connected to any on a deeper level. Would recommend for a light read in the genre!

I kind of felt like the dialogue was really awkward throughout the whole thing but kept going because the plot was interesting and I liked Rita as a character (she and the dog were the only ones I liked). Then the last like 20% of the book completely ruined it for me. Maybe it was because I was listening to the audiobook and I missed some details somewhere, but it felt so random and rushed.

It was fine, just definitely not for me.

A fun and readable mystery, nothing special

Pacey, entertaining, undemanding.
SpoilerJay's friends were pretty interchangeable and it could have been any one of them, really. I thought it was funny towards the end when the perp was revealed and suddenly changed from being a great guy/ upstanding citizen to a totally maniacal killer. Heh heh hehhhh!
