I really enjoyed the first 3/4th of this book. The short chapters filling back and forth between Molly and Rita's POV made it easy to breeze through the book. The last 1/4 were all the loose ends come together felt a little rushed.

4.5 rounded up

I was really underwhelmed. I think the book moved very slowly, and I found certain elements very jarring like the portrayal of mental health professionals and Molly’s claim that she is completely fine as long as she has her husband. I didn’t connect with any characters or end up caring about them. The plot fell flat and the ending was unimpressive.

The investigation into the murder also felt very awkward and was slow-paced. Some of the decisions made by the detectives did not really make sense to me.

The storyline and writing could use a lot more refinement.

Rounded up to 2 stars, but it’s truly a 1.5 star read for me.

Overall I enjoyed this debut from Terri Parlato as an interesting and suspenseful thriller. Although parts of the novel were a little descriptive without much happening, and there were a few lines I thought didn’t pass for original (think cliché and predictable), it still kept me on the edge of my seat and had me wanting to read on, staying up way past my bedtime and skipping out on some work to get to the next chapter

I liked the alternative view, but greatly disliked the main character. Right away I had a distaste for the writing, but figured I’d give it a true try. Ugh. It was a story that would never end. The killer was obvious, but props to the author for trying to send the reader in different directions. The only part I liked was the character, Rita. I could be persuaded to read another book with her in it.
