I had no idea this book would end the way it would.
I don’t read many thrillers/mysteries because I don’t like the endings. I feel the revealed killer always ends up being a character that’s rarely in the book. I was SHOCKED when it was Cal, and even more shocked when it was Keith’s brother.
I thought the author beautifully brought in Molly’s past into the present, and I felt really connected to Rita’s POV. The only thing I might not have liked much was going into Rita’s past. It just didn’t make much sense as to why she was so affected by this case, but it wasn’t enough of an issue to lower the star.
Also I usually hate when books end with pregnancies; I think it’s always over used, but this ending of Molly being pregnant with Jay’s baby brought tears to my eyes. It was a beautiful ending and left my heart so full for Molly.

Great action, lots of tension, and a strong set of characters set the reader on a procedural mystery that unravels the suspects' backstories. The ending is hugely satisfying and the book is a fast read, let it sweep you away.
Might contain MILD spoilers, but nothing intense.
Ok, so here’s the thing. I read some of the reviews for this book and I honestly don’t think we read the same book. This debut from Terri Parlato is gripping. I read a few reviews that didn’t like our protagonist, Molly, because she “was too flat,” or too scared, but I feel like there’s no way those people finished this book. Molly finds her voice with every blow to her and eventually becomes a strong, self-empowered woman. She is inspiring. For the other protagonist (it’s told from 2 perspectives), Rita is a wonderful detective and her presence adds so much to the overall storytelling. If you are a fan of solving mysteries or know anything about good vs. bad detective work, you’ll enjoy this book. Very realistic! Some of the twists are implausible, which is what made me give this a 4. For instance, when the killer is revealed, they go James-Bond-villain and explain their own psyche, which is just not how criminals work, but I guess it was necessary for the story to make sense. I just wish there had been another way. I will admit I gasped several times while reading this and I was positive I knew who the killer was several times. I was never right. I will DEFINITELY be getting Parlato’s second book!

I loved this one! There were twist I didn't see coming, the story unfolded nicely, there weren't any silly predictable weird things that happen in so many books. I will read more by her!
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars!
A great debut thriller!!
This book started out intense right off the bat and so I was instantly interested in the story. I enjoyed the back and forth between Molly and Rita and following both sides of the police investigation.
It got a little confusing because there are soo many characters and it was difficult to keep them all straight. I did feel like the pacing or maybe the energy/excitement in the book felt a little flat but I was still really interested in what was happening!
The ending was kind of crazy but also seemed drawn out?
Still a great book for a debut! I could definitely see this becoming a movie or a show!

A pretty solid mystery/thriller novel.
After a night of celebrating Molly's husband's birthday with close friends, Molly finds him dead in his office. Throat slit open. As detectives tries to uncover the truth, Molly can no longer hide her dark past.
I wish there could of been more scenes of Molly as child, especially her time in the cellar. This way, as a reader I would feel more emotionally attached to the character. We got little glimpses here and there but it wasn't enough. The novel just needed a little bit more of that emotional pull to draw the readers in. Other than that, it was well written debut novel that will have you guessing the entire time.
***I would like to thank NetGalley, Terri Parlato (the author), and RB Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.*
