Merrick and Evie have a very unconventional meeting. She’s in a dressing room trying on a new shirt when Merrick walks in on her. Evie rushes off to her next interview, and of course it’s Merrick sitting behind the desk, the boss. Due to some issues at the company, the board wants Merrick to hire an in-house therapist for the employees. He completely disagrees with this so he has a plan, hire the least experienced person so the program will fail. Enter in Evie. They didn’t get off to a good start and the interview didn’t go much better. Especially after he tells her the plan, she leaves. so she shocked to learn that she actually got the job.
As time goes on, Merrick and Evie put aside their differences and actually get along quite well. as Amelia speaks with the employees, she’s also learning a bit about Merrick. he had a partner, Amelia, and every time she brings it up to Merrick he shuts down. But through the employees she’s able to kind of piece the story together. She finds out Amelia wasn’t only his partner, she was his fiancé. But they’re still quite a bit more she doesn’t know. Meanwhile, Merrick has a past that he needs to work through and learn to move on from.
it was a good read overall. Definitely some heart belt moments that sneak up on ya. Overall, lots of banter, good chemistry between the characters, fun and entertaining. There is a lack of communication section in here, as you know not my favorite, but it is pretty short-lived and works out quickly so it’ll be OK.

2022 was my first listen. Jan 2025 was my second.
Vi’s books are always strong on surprise twists. I loved the epilogue that tied this book up with a big fat red bow. Chef’s kiss for sure.

This book had me hooked from the very first scene! Picture this: I’m rooting for the main character even as she argues with her future boss... while standing in her bra. The humor, the chemistry, and all the witty banter between Merrick and Evie make The Boss Project such a fun read.
Why I Loved It:
- Evie: She’s smart, sassy, and so relatable. I love how she stands her ground, even when she feels like life is throwing her curveballs. Her job as a therapist is woven into the story in such an interesting way, especially with how it brings her closer to Merrick.
- Merrick: He’s the perfect mix of brooding alpha and vulnerable softie. His past is heartbreaking, but it makes him such a layered character. Watching him open up to Evie was so satisfying.
- The Chemistry: Slow burn perfection! The tension between Evie and Merrick had me flipping pages like crazy. Their moments together are full of sparks and those “just kiss already!” vibes.
- Kitty: Merrick’s cheeky, meddling grandmother is a total scene-stealer! Her matchmaking antics are hilarious and add so much warmth to the story.
- The Balance of Humor and Emotion: While there’s plenty of laugh-out-loud banter, this book also tackles grief, trust, and healing. The emotional depth caught me off guard in the best way.
What Could Be Better:
The pacing dragged just a bit in the middle, and the conflict near the end felt a little predictable. But honestly, the resolution was so sweet, I didn’t mind too much!
Final Thoughts:
The Boss Project is classic Vi Keeland: witty, steamy, and heartfelt. If you love slow-burn workplace romances with a splash of humor and a side of emotional depth, this one’s for you! Evie and Merrick are total relationship goals. And Kitty? She’s the grandmother we all wish we had.

Things are not going Evie’s way, so much so that some random guy she had a yell down minutes before her job interview is he actual soon to be boss.
Merrick Crawford is the smoking hot a*hole that pushes Evie’s buttons at all times. Not only is he the CEO of one of the most successful hedge funds on NY financial district, he is also rude, arrogant and gorgeous. What he isn’t is prepared to face Evie on that interview room, nor to juggle the fact that he will be her boss whom has such a strong chemistry that makes him bounce on the thin line between employer and lover.
But has all our most loved book boyfriends, Merrick has a past and he will struggle with it. Evie is eager to prove herself and to ace the job, but what she is not prepared for is to fall head over hells for her boss.
Once again a Vi is able to pull the reader into the story without much of an effort. I certainly recommend you read this book if you are into enemies to lover romance. I sure am !

I have to say that this one is very much a quirky read with the concept from Keeland. I loved the banter between Merrick and Evie. There is a magnetic connection between them and I loved their push and pull. There is such wit with Evie when she and Merrick verbally spar and it is intense, spicy and so much more. I loved the storyline and flow and devoured this book. Plus Gramma Kitty for the Win! This is a great summer read that will be perfect by the pool!
