Absolutely stunning and breathtaking novel! I couldn't put it down until I've read the last page! I can relate the feelings of main characters, the writing of Katiee McGarry is sooo good!! First of all I thought this book would be a little bit cliche, but honestly, I adored it and would reread it soon.

DNF no rating. I found it very middle grade in terms of the narrative voices. The story didn't draw me in. It just didn't work for me.

Screaming from the hilltops because this book was everything! I love how strong and independent Elle came! I love how Drix overcome so many obstacles. This book was everything !

love. i loved the romance of it all and the couple was EVERYTHING

!!!!!

I will admit I had checked this out only for oppo research (i.e. I've written a manuscript with similar themes and want to see how someone else has grappled them, and to make sure it's not too similar to what I've written -- alas there is a dog theme and one very similar plot point towards the end). I ended up blown away. Like damn, this is a great ****ing book!

I don't read romance let alone YA romance, and this defied every preconception I had of the genres. The quality of the writing is incredible, and the characters are complex, fascinating, and voiced distinctly and accurately. The plot is laid out and the characters are developed to perfection. Most impressive though is its portrayal of the political world: its sliminess and corruption, hypocrisies, and contradictions, juggling doing what is right with what is practical, doing what is honest and what will get you the win, and what is fair for one now with the potential to be fair for the many. It also discusses the school-to-prison pipeline and the inequalities of the criminal justice system intelligently and in a way that doesn't weigh the story down. These factors make the novel's political backdrop more than mere window dressing. This book is as intellectual as it is emotionally intelligent. It also doesn't pander with an unrealistic resolution to the political conundrum that develops in the second half of the book. Its underlying messages are constantly tested and well defended throughout. You really cannot ask for anything more.

My only headscratchers here are the title that may make you think the story is something it's not, and...since when does Kentucky elect progressives???

P.S. the correct answer to Elle's question of why Dad chose Drix for the program is: he's white. ;)

This was the book that I secretly read in the office because I just had to know how it ends. And there was a part towards the end of the book that really broke my heart. I won't spoil anyone. You just have to read it and find out yourself.

Really had hoped to get into this one, but just didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped to.
