Family can be super complicated but then stick that family into the limelight? Oh yeah, that's just asking for trouble - especially since you suddenly have to be aware of your every move, decision, and its impact on society's obsession with the lives of the rich & fabulous.

For Elle, short for Ellison, this is very much a lifelong awareness as she's the Governor's daughter. Her life is not her own and her parents have let her know it every step of the way. Having never been given a chance to do anything but appear to be the greatest, Elle feels like a failure stuck in the gilded cage. Her biggest secret is her newfound attempt to find herself through her passion for coding and computer programming.

Too bad she's getting sabotaged by more than just her parents. There's some dark secrets her parents refuse to tell her about her adoptive brother Henry that very much shapes their controlling ways. In addition, there's a family friend named Andrew who not only finds small ways to cut her down, but deviously forces his way into her public perception. Andrew's exactly the kind of guy you hate because he's cocky, but he doesn't realize just how slimy he is.

Drix, short for Hendrix, is the face for the Governor's new Second Chances Program. His life is not his own and the Governor's team let's him know with all the public appearances and speeches. His true passion is music and playing the drums, but it's been taken off the tracks by all this. It's at one of these appearances that he meets Elle and in doing the gentlemanly thing for her - their story begins.

dnf at 40%. The romance was incredibly boring and there was no chemistry at all and the whole plot made no sense and was sooooo slow

I would give this book a 3.5 out of five. Don’t get me wrong, this book was absolutely amazing, the plot, characters, setting, theme, descriptions, everything. But I would say this book is pretty slow paced. It’s not that long of a book but it took me long to read because I just couldn’t get through it. It was very engaging but the writing wasn’t… my preference. BUT O MY LORD DRIX IS MWAH

Wow. I enjoyed this quite a lot! I loved both main characters and their voice. I loved the message behind the story. I guessed I'm just meant to love Katy's books.

Still can't really wrap my thoughts around it all. I'm neither disappointed nor am I wowed like I usually am with her books, guess I just wasn't into it. :(
It was plain boring. I wanted more whack-a-mole and I wanted more family band time and I wanted more Drix and Elle scenes.
I'm excited for the upcoming short stories though!
btw Isaiah is still my fave

Book Review: Say You'll Remember Me by Katie McGarry

“This love, it has been worth it—even if I'm losing a piece of my heart in the process.”

When Drix was convicted of a crime he did not commit, he thought his life was over. But the Governor’s newest pet project for delinquents: the Second Chance Program, gave him another opportunity. He becomes the face of the program and gets paraded in front of reporters. As the Governor’s daughter, Elle knows she lives a life of privilege but the expectations and pressure to be someone she isn't starts to become too much. When they meet, their connection is immediate, but so are their problems. Fighting against a society that can't imagine them together, Drix and Elle push themselves and each other to finally get what they deserve.

I really loved this book!!!! I seriously couldn't put it down until I finished it. The characters were complex, the storyline was addictive, and the writing was so beautiful. From the first couple of chapters, I knew I was going to love it! It is a novel about love, life, second chances, independence and stripping back characteristics. It was a very enjoyable read that had such a sweet yet intense story. A lot of people complain about the lack of parents in YA novels but this one had a lot involved.
.
I liked the alternating POV’s as Elle and Drix were so vibrant I swear I forgot I was reading about fictional characters sometimes. Drix he was the PERFECT book boyfriend! Example: “Can I be your first kiss?” like he asked!? YES! Elle was an amazing strong female lead who came more out of her shell throughout the novel. The love story was realistic with the concept of a forbidden love and she’s out of my league. The plot was new and different for me with tough subjects and relevant social issues. Sometimes the characters felt forced into role though.
.
I definitely recommend this author and this book. It will bring you on an emotional roller-coaster that’ll all be worth it at the end. I fell in love with Drix and Elle's story which involved way more than romance!! Will definitely be reading more of the author’s books.
