After reading and loving Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits, I knew I had to read Say You’ll Remember Me!! I mean just look at that cover. I love the deep purple and magenta colors but also the font of the title. The cover works really well with the story. I didn’t realize it until now when I read it a second time. Say You’ll Remember Me is realistic, heartfelt, funny, honest, and inspiring. This is a story that will move you emotionally and will stay with long after you’ve finished reading it.

My favorite aspect of Say You’ll Remember Me are the characters!! Especially the main characters, Hendrix “Drix” Pierce and Ellison “Elle” Monroe. They are great when they’re apart but these two are fireworks when they are together!! They come from completely different backgrounds but can relate to each other on a deeper level. This made the story feel like a forbidden romance in a Contemporary book, which I liked. Hendrix Pierce looks like a bad boy but he’s actually a soft boy who loves his family and music. He’s made mistakes but he’s character development in the book was so sincere and profound. Elle’s character development was something that I wasn’t expecting until some shocking events that happened. She’s feisty, intelligent, passionate, and caring. This novel deals with a specific issue in society and shows how important it is for young people to use their voice. To stand up for who/what they believe in and truly make a change in the world. Katie wrote this aspect really well in the story!! Something else I enjoyed was the strong relationships that Drix, Axle, Marcus, Dominic, Holiday, and Kellen have together. It’s a family that was created by choice, not because all them are related by blood. They are a family because they love, care, and support each other. It was so sweet, powerful, and endearing! Everyone deserves to experience having such loyal friends/family. I loved how the dog entered the book. Thor is such a cute name for a dog. I love dogs so books that have pets in the story are great. All of these characters are heartbreakingly amazing and I felt like I was physically there with them or know them personally.

I need to mention the power of music in Say You’ll Remember Me!! Music plays a part in this book because the characters are talented musicians. I’ve always enjoyed reading about characters who have artistic and creative hobbies. I love listening to music while I read and associating songs which certain characters/books. Also, Katie McGarry makes playlists for her books. I have made playlists for my favorite books and it’s awesome to see authors do it too!! Say You’ll Remember Me is such a beautifully written novel. While I was I reading, I found myself thinking “wow, that’s a great quote!” multiple times. That’s how good of a writer Katie McGarry is!! I can see the improvement of Katie’s writing between Pushing the Limits and Say You’ll Remember Me. This book is definitely become a favorite of mine and worth reading. If you looking for an authentic and genuine YA Contemporary Romance, I highly recommend Say You’ll Remember Me!!

I cried like a baby
I went into it with high expectations and they lived up to them. I really enjoyed it

Drix and Elle are just what I wanted in my life. They meet fairly quickly in the book, and I was immediately invested in their love.

Drix just got out of serving a year in juvie for an armed robbery he did not commit. Elle has super controlling parents who manipulate her into doing what they ask. They meet, and the chemistry is there instantly. They're relationship is something you root for the entire book, and life would be cruel if they cannot be together. A great read, which I couldn't put down until I finished it at 1:30am on a weeknight.

This is a cute romance between musician Drix and goveners daughter Elle.
First of all, THE COVER is so pretty. Unfortunately the book itself was not that great.
It’s a typical romance about star-crossed lovers- nothing I haven’t read before. I love when a book is told from a males perspective as well as the females, and Drix’s POV when he’s interacting with Elle, were really cute, and I felt like he really loved her.

Elles POV was slightly boring. Most of the time she is talking about her parents or she’s with her parents or she’s at conferences.
I felt that her POV when she was with Drix, wasn’t very realistic.
The book for me was too long and the print was really small which I found annoying. If the book had been like 230-320 pages long, it would have been better.

Over all I didn’t love this book, but I’d pick it up again if I wanted to read another romance.

This book was so sweet. I know I’ve read Katie McGarry books before and didn’t always love them. They can be a little too intense or cheesy, but this was the perfect summer read. I highly enjoy the wrong side of the tracks boy meets the quote unquote good girl who’s all smart and fancy... that type of shit makes me wanna read a book super hard core. Everything about this book... Elle and Drix are great... just wow with this book... I’m so glad I put it on my holds list because it was worth the read.

3.5 Stars!

“For the rest of my life, I will always be the guy who robbed a convenience store. I will always be my past. I will always be my mistakes. I will never be anything more.”
“That’s not true!” I exclaim. “You’re more than that. You’re so much more!”
“And only five other people see that. I’m changed because of your dad, but I’m also damned because of your dad. I will always be the mistake.”
“You are not a mistake!”
Drix swears and my lower lip trembles. He strides around the car, and I expect him to keep walking, past me and into the house, but he doesn’t. Instead, he gathers me into his arms. One hand pressed against my back, the other guides my head into his chest. I collapse into him, holding on as tight as I can because he needs me and I need him. We need each other.
“I don’t know how to fix this,” I whisper, “but we’re stronger together, Drix. I promise we are. Please don’t give up on us. Please don’t give up on yourself.”
“I don’t know,” he says into my hair. “I don’t know where to go from here. I don’t know how to be the man you deserve when we can’t even be seen together in public. I don’t know who I am, especially when I’m never going to be anything more than who I was.”

REBLOG @ TUMBLR {X}

While this didn't become an instant Katie McGarry favorite of mine, it still ended up being an enjoyable read. Drix and Elle were really cute together. I liked their back and forth banter when they were getting to know each other and once they were together as well. And I loved seeing how two people from two different worlds could understand each other so well. They both were basically going through the same thing, just in different ways. They went through some serious self discovery. Elle trying to find herself again after being under her parent's thumb for so long. And Drix trying to discover who he is after being someone else in the eyes of the public. It was great to see them both going on their separate journeys but also helping each other along the way. They were captivating and interesting protagonists as were the supporting characters in the story. I kind of hope we get a book for some of Drix's family and friends - Dominic, Marcus, and Holiday in particular. But, if we only get this one book I'd be okay. Once again, Katie provides me with a touching and heartfelt young adult contemporary romance. I always like how her characters go through real world problems. Stuff that we do need to shed light on in order to help our youth succeed. Her stories are emotionally gripping and leave you feeling something by the end. In this case I felt hopeful. I felt hopeful for Elle and Drix's futures. I was satisfied with how everything worked itself out and how both Elle and Drix grew as characters from start to finish.

I would definitely recommend giving this book a go if you're into young adult contemporary romance! Especially if you love the forbidden romance / star-crossed lovers trope!

Say You’ll Remember Me is a standalone novel by Katie McGarry. I’ve read all her Pushing the Limits books, as well as Thunder Road, so I was looking forward to more of her stories. She didn’t disappoint!

This book surrounds the poised and perfect governor’s daughter, Ellison, and the delinquent boy Hendrix. At least, that’s how the media perceives them. In reality, Ellison isn’t as perfect as she appears on camera, and Hendrix isn’t as bad as anyone thinks.

Ellison, or Elle, has a lot of pressure being the governor’s daughter. She has to look perfect and act perfect at all times, never letting herself falter. She has to paint on a face everyday that isn’t her own. She’s told she doesn’t know what she really wants because she’s young, that she should let her parents make the decisions for her. More and more she feels like she’s being molded into something that they want her to be rather than who she really is. She wants to dress down. She wants to wear her glasses instead of colored contacts to make her eyes pop more. She wants to wear her hair in a bun, not have to always have it perfectly curled. She wants to be herself, but she doesn’t know how when she also wants to support her dad in his campaign.

Hendrix, or Drix, on the other hand, just got out of a second chance program for teens. He’s been committed for a crime - robbing a convenience store and shooting the person inside. The only thing is, he didn’t commit it. The system failed him because he’s poor, and public defenders don’t have enough time to help out properly. He had to plea guilty to save himself from having to potentially end up in adult prison. Though he didn’t commit the crime, the program worked wonders for him. He went from a bad road of drugs, sex, and fighting to one of sobriety and calmness. Yes, he still got mad at things, but he learned new ways to cope. He saw who he was before. He didn’t want to go back. He’s a good guy with a great heart, and you see time and time again how selfless he can be.

I really loved their relationship together. The forbidden aspect always makes things more challenging, but seeing the way they pushed each other to be the best person they could be was really great.

I also really liked the side characters. Henry was Elle’s rock, and he was always there to listen when she needed someone. Holiday and Axle were great siblings to Drix too. They love him fiercely, and they want what is best for him.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a great addition to my Katie McGarry collection, and I look forward to reading another one of her books soon!

omfg so good and the honesty and discourse around the US justice system was so true in its brokenness. The secret romance was gripping as well as the difference between their worlds.
