I was so excited to read this bc the plot sounded really unique and exciting but yeah...

Good girl, bad boy - yes, those high school romances might seem to be a dime a dozen but when it comes to the best, it's hard to beat my girl [a:Katie McGarry|4575371|Katie McGarry|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1305138891p2/4575371.jpg]. This one comes pretty close to beating out my favorites - [b:Crash into You|17233800|Crash into You (Pushing the Limits, #3)|Katie McGarry|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1370532247s/17233800.jpg|23751121], [b:Long Way Home|30738170|Long Way Home (Thunder Road, #3)|Katie McGarry|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1467792410s/30738170.jpg|25128431], and [b:Chasing Impossible|25263399|Chasing Impossible (Pushing the Limits, #5)|Katie McGarry|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1467207526s/25263399.jpg|44986983]. I hope this becomes another great series, considering the wonderful family of characters introduced here, along with the impossible romance between Elle and Drix.

Oh, I must say I was thrilled with the mention of a Zamboni. I am a little obsessed with Zambonis so that didn't hurt at all.

I read Pushing the Limits in 2015 and became an instant fan of McGarry's writing. It's no surprise, I was excited when she announced a new standalone. After reading the synopsis, I was literally counting the days to release date.  I was lucky enough to land an early review copy and it was everything I had anticipated. Say You'll Remember Me is an emotional coming of age story, filled with forbidden romance, redemption, and learning to believe in yourself.

"Who am I if I'm not who I used to be?"

Told in dual points of view, Hendrix and Elle come from very different worlds but have an instant connection.  Drix has just completed a tough rehabilitation and is adjusting to his new life as the poster child for the governor's new second chance program.  The struggles Drix face are gut wrenching, and I admired how he continues to grow throughout the story. He has an intense connection with Elle, the governor's daughter, who is completely off limits.  Elle is amazingly resilient and faces her owns battles. I appreciated her strength and willingness to fight for what she believes in. She and Drix have amazing chemistry, and I couldn't get enough of their slow burning connection.

She's a risk, and I can't afford to take risks anymore.

The unconditional love of family is one of the key elements of this story and it is excellently delivered. Drex's moments with his siblings, especially Axle melted my heart. Having worked eight years (and still volunteering) in the the juvenile justice field, this book is closer to my soul than most. McGarry does an outstanding job conveying Drix's plight. I wish there had been even more discussion about his program and the issues that lead him accept his fate so easily. Sadly, it is too prevalent in the juvenile court system. Kudos to McGarry for spotlighting this issue.

"The system doesn't work for people who are poor."

If you are a fan of contemporary YA, I recommend this one. It's authentic to the genre and represents everything YA should be. Say You'll Remember Me is filled with emotion, redemption, and the beauty of first love. I cannot wait for what is next from McGarry.

A huge thank you to Inkslinger PR for my advanced review copy.

God the ending of this book had me sobbing... Hard. Emotionally scarred. Can't believe she did that.

I love Katie McGerry and her books. The only thing is that their is quite a bit of typos and she uses the word beautiful a lot. Little things that bug me but otherwise I’m deeply found of every world she creates. Always a fast, fun, and adventurous read.

I feel like this book would be better as a YA commentary on the school to prison pipeline and less as a romance.

Say You’ll Remember Me is such a cute YA book. It’s been so long since I have read a YA contemporary romance so it was a nice break from what I have been reading. It’s also one of the few YA books that take place outside of school--in fact, there is no scene that takes place inside school, besides the dance in the last 10 pages or so. It was a really refreshing change.

It’s the story of the convict and the good girl with a young adult twist. So no jail time basically. And it’s all told after the crime and punishment. Hendrix “Drix” is chosen by Ellie “Elle”’s governor father to be apart of his program that gets kids out of the system, rehabilitated and back into their lives with sealed records and no hard punishment. Before even meeting through the program they do have a run-in with each other and have their official meeting. It’s when they see each other on stage that he realizes how out of his league she just is and she learns his past.

Yet none of that phase either of them. And with attraction in the forefront, they become fast friends that soon tips into more. Their romance is sweet and it is just a clean YA read, so it was nice. I read a lot of NA so I forgot what “clean” romance even means.

Katie McGarry wrote a sweet novel about never giving up and fighting for what you want and what is right and I urge everyone to read this wonderful book.

After thinking on my review and rating for a couple of days and recently finishing 'Crash Into You' I definitely think this is a 4 Star rating book.

I'm left absolutely floored by Say You'll Remember Me. Katie McGarry has written a novel that strips back characteristics of a person so they can truly see who they're meant to be. Elle and Drix are lost souls who find solace together, their love empowering them to make change.

I stayed up until 1am to finish it. So many great themes. Loved the MC and the love interest, as well as some great minor characters. A very fine twist, too. If it weren’t for some B-story plotting issues and some cringe-y similes, I’d have given it 5 stars. Will definitely read more McGarry. Glad to have discovered her.
