When I read the synopsis for this book, I expected it to be better. It was a good story and it had a nice happily ever after in the end, but I expected the whole thing to be more dramatic, and the closer to the end I got, the more frustrated I got about the lack of... Something. I'm no sure what. But I still give this 4 stars because it interested me enough that I read it in a day.

I finished the book in a day so I must have liked it but I can't really explain why I liked it, I just did.

A cute story of teenage romance. Very sweet and breezy and engaging.

Poignant, insightful, and resoundingly thought provoking. Zevin has kept me awake all night with yet another tale of second-chances. Certainly, a proper review to come.

This was ... just ok. Not bad, not unbelievable. Just

I would love to say I read this and loved it but mostly it felt casual where it could have been magnificent in a way. It felt typical and predictable and though there was change I felt I never knew her character. I thing stuck out. It all just felt monotone unfortunately for me.

If I had stumbled upon this book when it was published, I think 17 yo me would have loved it. I think it would have spoken to me and helped me understand that love and heartbreak at such a young age is not the end all be all of the world. It would have been what Zevin's AJ Fickery's Storied Life is to me now.

That did not happen.

Instead I felt unconcerned about a rather rotten teenager. I couldn't understand why I should care about her. It took most of the book for me to decide if I liked her. The characters around her were filtered through her opinion and more often than not, she didn't have one. They were left lacking in definition and personality.

All of that is not to say this isn't a good, enjoyable book. It just wasn't for me.
