Surprisingly relatable. I noticed a lot of parallels in my own life as a female lawyer, mother, balancing work and family. This autobiography is so heartfelt and inspiring.

Sorry to be cliché, but this book was so inspirational. She lays it all out on the table but never gives in to martyrdom or cynicism. I loved following her journey and the way she told it. I highly recommend it, especially if recent history has you down.

I enjoyed reading about where she grew up and how her and Barack became a couple. I particularly liked reading about the behind the scenes of living in the White House and the thought that went into how they would handle their position as the first black president and first family. After finishing, I was sad that the same care and thought isn't being done by our current president, and the efforts to diversify the White House and invite in regular people to experience White House privileges has been shit on by Trump. I appreciate the Obamas' caring and love of people which shown through in her writing.

I truly loved listening to this book! Michelle Obama is an amazing woman who simply tells her story through her experiences growing up, her education, her marriage and her path through the White House as the First Lady. I couldn’t have more respect for her than I do after listening to her read her lovely book. It made me laugh and cry, and it gave me an understanding of the sacrifices that were made in her and her family’s lives to serve their country. Very well done!

I bounced between the large print book and the audiobook, and I will say that the audiobook is far more engaging. I might have abandoned the book otherwise.
Despite all that has been written about Michelle Obama during and since the campaigns and her time as FLOTUS, I did not have a full understanding of her background. Learning about her childhood, her parents, etc. was the most interesting part for me - and yes, even her courtship with Barak.
There were times when this book felt a tad too much like a Barak Obama pubic relations vehicle, but I have seen this critique of Laura Bush's autobiography as well. Maybe it is giving the publisher and/or the people what they want.
Becoming is an interesting book that made me like Michelle Obama even more than I did.

Beautifully written and exceptionally narrated by Michelle Obama herself. I didn't want it to end... I kept thinking, "I know the plot twist; I'm not ready!" It moved me to tears more than once for what our country has lost, but also for what we were witness to in having such a remarkable family leading our nation for 8 years.

Michelle's childhood experiences perfectly set up how she grew into the intelligent, hardworking, compassionate, human being that we know her to be. It's inevitable that she would feel about politics as she does, though it's certainly our loss as a nation - she would be better than them all.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It's eloquent, moving, and inspiring. She is exactly the type of person I like to see in power—sure enough in herself to make important, educated decisions but malleable enough to know that life means constantly evolving.
"For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end. [...] Becoming requires equal parts patience and rigor. Becoming is never giving up on the idea that there's more growing to be done."
