I tried reading this book, but didn’t get far. I switched to listening to the Audible book read by Michelle Obama. It was really good listening to Michelle’s words in her own voice.

Very well written, beautiful language and a fascinating look at a fascinating person. She describes herself as an ordinary person. I wish I could be as ordinary.

Do yourself a favor and listen to this on audiobook. I loved listening to Michelle, herself, share her own life story. She has a magical way with words and I feel as though I’ve been on a journey with a good friend.

I started this one on audio but finished reading it. I thoroughly enjoying learning about Michelle’s childhood, her early career and her life with Barack. It is fascinating to read how she was not all that enthusiastic about politics and her struggles balancing her needs/goals/dreams. It is not hard to understand why she is the most admired woman in the world.

An excellent book, written by an exceptionally intelligent, warm woman whom I admire more than words can describe. Compare Michelle and Barack Obama to the current occupants of the White House. How on earth did we go from the Obamas to the lying, lowlife, racist, xenophobic, misogynistic grifter we're saddled with now. As of today, more than 60000 deaths in a few weeks from COVID 19, and still climbing, due in no small part to the incompetence of the Trump administration. And yet he has the nerve to claim he inherited "broken tests" from President Obama - for a disease that didn't even exist until well into Trump's term.

This book is brilliant and beautiful and I would give it an unquestioned 5 stars if there hadn't been portions that felt fatphobic. I think that the work Michelle Obama did to provide nutritious meals to school children, expand the White House gardens, and offer opportunities for activity are all awesome, and I don't fault her for her rhetoric at the time. I do wish, though, that by the time she got around to writing and publishing Becoming she had updated her rhetoric to be size accepting.

Really enjoyed listening to Michelle Obama read me Becoming. What better way to hear her excitement, sadness, concern, thoughtfulness and love? Her voice rang true throughout her book, and I was intrigued to hear the personal stories from her childhood and beyond. I am fascinated by any family’s experience into the White House. The amount of time and energy that goes into representing a nation is beyond me and completely captivating. Thank you Michelle for lending us your core for eight years and exposing even more of it in Becoming! America is a better nation for your unflappable character and heart.
