I hate self-help books but I love [a:Brene Brown|162578|Brené Brown|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1246473726p2/162578.jpg]. I refer to the lessons in this book a lot when I find myself struggling or stuck in life. A mindset-changer.

I know Brené Brown is all the rage lately, but I had a hard time reading it. I mean, it did have good information in it but I just kept falling asleep. For the most part it didn't keep my attention and I just raced through it to get it finished and move on. There were a few parts that were interesting and a good reminder about how to deal with shame in our lives, but I think I needed the cliffs notes version. As a shy person I do not dare greatly or do well with vulnerability, but I didn't walk away feeling like I could take it on, which I was hoping I would. That may be more to do with my issues though - I am not one who really likes self help books and would rather read a novel. I wished I liked it more than I did.

The content of the book is truly life changing and applicable to all, a must read in my opinion. Though it is research heavy in some ways so it does take a while to get through to truly absorb and apply.

I learned a lot from this book and highly recommend reading it. Backed with extensive research, Daring Greatly is about whole-hearted living - what it looks like and how to start living that way yourself. Focusing on topics such as joy, courage, compassion, and vulnerability, and the difference between shame and guilt, this book is an inspiring challenge to examine both your thinking and actions. My favorite quote from Daring Greatly sums up the core message of the book nicely:
"Whole-heartedness is like the North Star. We never really arrive, but we certainly know if we're headed in the right direction." - Brene Brown
