Disclaimer: I listened to the book and found the narrator obnoxious, so that very well could have influenced my feelings toward the book. I love Brene Brown, but I felt like this book was mostly restating what she has said in her other books. I appreciate her research and agree with a lot of her insights, but for someone who had already read her other books, this didn't seem nearly as ground breaking.
It's definitely a self help book, which means there's plenty I just don't enjoy reading. But I have a deep appreciation for this message and how it's delivered. It's based in research and experience. Brene Brown writes like her purpose is to engage with you, not to sell books - this effect is amplified by her narration. I have a lot of respect for her willingness to put her own stories in the book.
I think everyone can find at least one aspect here they resonate with and want to improve. I'd recommend reading it.

Favorite part “Short note, that when Ellen was a kindergartener, I got this great email from her kindergarten teacher that said, “Oh. Totally the daughter of a shame researcher. Today, she was in the Glitter Center. And I said, ‘Ellen, you’re so messy.’ And she sat straight up and said, ‘I may be making a mess, but I’m not messy.'”
Also Shame: “I am bad.” Guilt: “I did something bad.” Humiliation, similar to shame, but “I didn’t deserve it.”
