I feel like this book could be read and reread, and every time I would find a new life lesson to hold onto. I find it awesome that someone can conduct research centered on human topics such as shame, vulnerability, connection, and happiness. When I worked on research in college, my studies were often focused on polling data and quantifying it, making it sound as if all research done was supposed to be quantitative and never gave anyone an opportunity to work outside of that data. Brown’s research and life’s work shows that was never the case, and there is such a need for more researchers to do this as Brown’s work primarily focused on women’s shame because the way she knew that she could collect data until she was confronted with realizing she was missing a key part of data that would broaden her work: men’s vulnerability and shame. These insights were made with specific analogies, anecdotes and tips that all self-help books preach, but only some achieve. While I believe that there could’ve been more information for how to achieve daring greatly, then I believe more people would continue to benefit from her work, as specific strategies are best spelled out step by step.
Brown has an extensive track record through her books, her research, and her presentations, so be sure to check out more of her work.

I only give 5 star reviews to books I think everyone would benefit from. I knew I would love this book, I've been meaning to read it for years and glad I read it during a time I needed it the most. It shifted my perspective on so many topics. Highly recommend the audiobook version read by Brené Brown.
therapist made me read it and, unfortunately, it actually helped (though rather simple and reductive at times)
5 Stars for content
4.5 as an audiobook
So incredibly good, I honestly believe everyone needs to read this book. It is life changing and will transform the way you approach the world and your relationships in it. I am so encouraged and challenged by Brene Brown's research and writing. It has had an incredible impact in my life. This is definitely one that I will go back to again and again. The only reason it isn't a full 5 stars was just that I listened to it as an audiobook which I do recommend however occasionally it would be read too fast and I would have to go back and repeat sections just to fully catch what was being discussed. Absolutely amazing and I couldn't recommend more highly.

This was my first Brene Brown book, and I really enjoyed it. It might be a coincidence that this message is exactly what I needed to hear in this moment, but it also might be just a fact that shame, guilt, and vulnerability are things we face every day so I would have resonated with the message no matter when I read it. The chapters on parenting were especially helpful and really put into words a difficult topic that I was having trouble expressing to my husband.
A great look at the difference between shame and guilt, honest vulnerability, hope and courage and how to work towards living an authentic life. With interesting facts from her research, some bare soul discussions and some great "gut kick, eye opening" truths.

Another excellent read from Brene Brown. Her books continue to uplift and inspire me. I can read her books and feel a sense of camaraderie with her. She helps me feel normal and human and reassures me that I am doing my best.
I believe books come to you when you need them, and this book has been sitting bedside for about a year waiting on me. I don’t know that I would have been ready for it before. Reason being, I wouldn’t have been able to read past the first chapter on narcissists.
I don’t love how Brown discredits the influence of a narcissist on those close to them. She suggests that just listening and caring is what narcissists need, but I very much doubt she’s been in an abusive relationship with one as that is not at all a solution and can actually deepen the abuse if you’re not in a healthy space with sturdy boundaries.
So overall, some great bits I’ll incorporate into my life. BUT it’s woven in and out of maybe a little bit too sparkly and simplistic rose-colored glasses.
