I really liked the first chapter, but there are too many other books I want to read right now. Returned it to the library, but may buy a copy eventually.

This was an interesting read and I’m contemplating getting the book to see if there are any pictures that go with the stories. The author did a great amount of research and presented things that I had never heard about before. If you are not sure about reading nonfiction, this might be the way to go as I felt like I was listening to a podcast series.
Fantastic vignettes of some fascinating cultural practices that survive today. Stein does a great job of making a coherent and interesting narrative of the history and present, weaving the two together in a logical fashion. The bee chapter wasn’t the strongest, but that’s the only real weakness- the rest really kept me engaged. And now I want to try some real soy sauce.
