I really enjoyed this author’s style... but that was about it. The constant rejection of Rachel and the bad behavior of the filthy rich mostly made me feel intensely uncomfortable for 87% of the book. It was very well written— but overall it just wasn’t a book for me.

I read this book to better understand the material covered in the movie because I wanted to know the relationships better. I don’t think that was needed. A lot of this book I tended to just wait until something was going to happen. It did not capture my attention that I thought it would. I liked this book as a leisure read but I don’t think I will be rereading it again.

I recommend it as a summer/beach read but nothing else.

GAH! I HATED THE ENDING. I WANTED MORE. NOW I HAVE TO READ THE REST OF THE SERIES!!

Otherwise the book was highly entertaining. I'm not Asian but I've had Asian friends and many of the parents made me giggle. They reminded me of a close friends' mom from high school. It's obviously a book that you have to imagine being insanely rich while reading. Not hard to do, but sometimes sucks because then you remember you're sitting at your desk at a job that does NOT pay enough for you to afford the designers these people consider to be beneath them/for the poor/tacky. There were a ton of designers I've never heard of, but it piqued my interest. I love Rachel. Nick describes her near the end of the book as being pragmatic and he's right. She really is, which is probably why I like her so much. I'll stop there. I don't want to give away any spoilers.

Read this if you'd like to pretend to be an ultra-rich, island-hopping, designer-wearing socialite. It's a great escape, especially in the middle of a Midwest winter and it's snowstorms.
