There are a lot of grammatical errors within the book that I kept noticing. I didn't really see the romance. It felt like there was no build up to it and it just started happening. It felt like there was no chemistry between them. The fantasy aspect I do quite like. The world is set after a rebellion. The order of the guards is interesting and I do like the names of each section. The training was very rushed and I wished we got to see the fmc struggle and become a badass at combat. She became cool with her powers but I think over I was hoping to enjoy the book more. The book just felt last luster to me, until the ending. The ending got me. I wasn’t expecting that to be the ending. I’m really intrigued to read the next one after that ending because wow that interesting.

The book was sitting at 2 stars whilst reading it but the ending bumped up to 3. It’s a low three but very intrigued with what’s coming next

The fantasy elements were interesting and unique. I don’t know how I feel about the romance, it felt like it happened way too quickly but wasn’t like.. special idk. I’m interested to see where this story goes but for a first book I wasn’t totally obsessed

i did soft DNF this the first time i read it, but happy i picked it back up. the ending alone got an extra half a star - what a cliffhanger! can’t wait for book 2 👀

Riftborne follows our FMC Fia, a branded outcast in the Isle of Sídhe. Fia is hiding a secret though, a power, or a curse as she sees it. When she loses control, she is faced with the ultimatum to join the Sídhe guard, or face execution. Will Fia master her power for the greater good, or submit to the chaos and villains unknown?

This book literally had me hooked from the start. I really resonated with Fia, and her grim, pessimistic personality, because same. I am Fia. Fia is me. (She’s just cooler.)

The magic system in it was also unique, which made it interesting to learn of everyone’s unique focuses & how it can contribute to war.

The last 25% of the book really picks up in terms of action and that’s when I started really putting together theories for what could be happening. The cliffhanger this book ends on is criminal and I can NOT wait to devour book two, my brain is immediately thinking of all the possible scenarios

I actually thoroughly enjoyed this!! If you liked Fourth Wing, The Cruel Dark, Metal Slinger, or even the Shatter Me series, I think you’ll like this!!

I wouldn’t call it an enemies to lovers as much as I’d call it a general distaste to hook up buddies lol nonetheless, I loved the moments they did interact! I loved the found family aspect, the power system was cool, and the storyline was all great imo. The ending too!!!! Wow. I will definitely be continuing this series!

More indie authors in 2025!!!
