I picked up this book because it sounded like a B movie and it didn’t disappoint in a B movie-esque kind of way.

Another steamy, supernatural novella by V. Castro, with a stunning cover! This had potential. The storyline was exciting, the writing felt passionate, and our protagonist was admirable.. then it fell apart.
I really enjoyed Maya’s confidence and determination, but I think making this a longer story would’ve added depth to her and the other characters. They felt a little more like plot devices than people. This is disappointing because V. Castro is such a descriptive writer!
In chapter 7, things get messy as the story rushes to its resolution. This, I think, could be improved by giving us a better, more complicated solution and more time to watch the characters work and grow together. I had the same issue with the author’s ‘Goddess of Filth’.. by the end of the book it almost felt lazy, or confused. I definitely would’ve liked to see this conclude more intricately than it did.
So overall, I adored the writing and thought this was a fun story, but I think making it a novel would’ve been the better option!

3 stars. This was fine. Very interesting plot but I think this would've been better as a full length book and with a better editor. I wasn't crazy about the writing but it definitely wasn't horrible or anything. This book was a quick read and it was fun for the most part but it just left me feeling 'meh' about it towards the end. I did like the characters though and the fact that she could turn into a Jaguar. That was pretty awesome.

I would agree with a lot of my fellow readers. I’m a big fan of V. Castro’s other books but this one fell a bit flat for me.
I really loved the main character Maya and her sister Magdalena and wished more time was spent with both of them. Didn’t love the romance storyline which felt a bit shoehorned in and unnecessary especially with such a short book.
I wish we got a bit more background on the powers and background of the creatures and the villain as well. I think because we didn’t the story itself felt a bit oddly placed especially with the villain being revealed very early on in the book but us still not learning that much about them.
