For sheer terror and making me root out my crucifix? Five stars. Traumatised.

I went into this book figuring it would just talk about the interesting cases that Ed and Lorraine were involved with, but in all honesty there wasn’t much of that. They brushed over Amityville way too quickly which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to that. I saw no mention whatsoever of the Perron family. They did discuss the Enfield case which I guess was cool. And of course Annabelle. I mean, I know they’ve investigated many cases that haven’t been popularized in film, but I just wanted more from this book than what I got. I will say that some of it did scare me which was surprising. I’m glad I read it and I’m happy to have it as part of my collection, but I just wanted more.

3 and a half stars

Just, eh.

DNF
I didn't expect this to be true, I believe in some aspects of the supernatural but I also believe the Warrens were total frauds. However I expected this book to give me chills and to be coherent and it did neither AND was boring.

It's definitely a creepy nighttime read. I kept reading this right before bed, and it was spooky.

But.

It's supposed to be nonfiction.

If there were any way to demonstrate this stuff for actual scientists who could measure stuff, they would be excited out of their minds. Because you're not just talking about people acting "weird" -- this book describes things being thrown around rooms and items being transmogrified into other things.

I always think about Stephen King's line about the Amityville Horror (a case this couple investigated): he watched the movie and found himself getting concerned about the house insurance actually paying off to the owners.

Now that we live in an age where everyone has cell phones (and Photoshop, I guess), I want to see some of this stuff already. I don't buy it.

It is hard to rate this book as it’s all meant to be true.
You won’t believe in the paranormal until you’ve experienced it first hand.
When I was younger a lot of things happened, which I won’t forget.
But this is just beyond. I can’t believe any of this myself it just seems so unbelievable.
However I liked the style of writing and it’s well structured. There’s a lot of repeating of how the demoniac works. I would still recommend.
slow-paced

There was something about the lay out of this book that I just didn’t like. However, the information was incredible! I knew a decent amount about the Warrens and some of their cases going in. But this was a deep dive into their lives. I was also happy pictures were included. I would’ve loved to be able to listen to them speak in person, and this book (for me personally) felt as if I was sitting in their lecture. I was glued to the pages, and I’m upset that I let this book sit unread on my shelf for the last several years.
