I would like to start this review by thanking NetGalley for allowing me to read this fantastic book.
I have given this book 5 five star rating because the writing style was great and I will read the book again as well as recommend it to others or buy it as a gift. It was also a good book for the continuation of this companion series (The Dukes of War).

Plot/Story line:
This was a lovely easy to read romance book. The book follows the stories of Captain Xavier Grey (who has returned from the war a shell of a man), and spinster Jane Downing (who want's to be off the shelf and into the arms of a hot-blooded man especially the dark and dangerous Captain Grey. He feels that he's not deserving of the love and respect of others because of things that he did during the war while she just wants to experience the feeling of love experienced by her friends,

Character (s):
There was a lot to the two main characters Jane and Xavier but equally as much to the other characters. Both characters were strong, kind, gentle natured loving, well read people whos love story was captivating.

Summary:
I enjoyed this book as much as I did the "The Earl's defiant Wallflower" and as much as I'm sure I will the rest of the series. Erica's writing was fabulous as was her world building. The way she described the expectations in the regency period as well as the places and clothing was really evocative and made me as the reader feel like I was experiencing. Especially her descriptions of the clothes as it made me feel like I was actually touching the materials.

While the main heroine was a bit pushy, there was something about her that I connected with and really appreciated. Over all a cute and sweet easy read.

Jane is . . . relentless!!! I mean I really did giggle throughout the entire story. It was worth it tho, I LOVED IT!

Good bones of a story, I had some issues with the timelapses and too many modern colloquialisms (and usually that doesn't phase me).

*****Copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review******

I think this is where I leave this series. I quite liked the prequel novella, I was disappointed with the first book in the series, but gave the series a second chance. This had even more issues for me than the previous one - some of the language choices struck me as downright bizarre (since when did a 19th century gentleman use "shite" in conversation with a lady without it even causing remark?!) - and both the hero and the heroine irritated me. Still it was a quick read for a nightshift meal break. I'd give this 1.5 stars if I could, but I'll be nice and give it two, if only because I hate leaving really negative reviews.

Love the characters and the fact that they are layered even in a romantic book.
Good story - I mean who doesn't love snow-in.
My favourite is obviously Jane, for taking en getting what she wants, while being utterly womanly and intelligent.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for a nice little, no stress romance book.
If you want steamy hot sex scenes, go read 5o shades or something like that. I truly believe this is a book about romance and accidentally has sex in it. Not an erotica book that forgot to be erotic.
I really enjoyed the fact that it read nice and fast, I finished it in an evening and would definitely say enjoy it for what it is.

Hmm, I was really enjoying this until pretty much the final scene, at which point I was all, "WTF?". Unnecessary theatricality.

Jane Dowling is a bluestocking (intellectual), totally overlooked by society, so much so that people constantly forget that they have met her before. She has even tried making outrageous comments in the hope of people remembering her to no avail. She has a crush on Captain Xavier Grey (the catatonic one from the previous book) and decides that since she is unlikely to ever marry she will instead experience sex in a different way. When her brother goes away on business Jane decides she will travel to Xavier's cottage in Essex and ask him if she can be his mistress.

Xavier is horrified by what he did during the war and feels unfit for polite society, at first he resists Jane but she wears him down with her humour and intelligence. Trapped together by a snowstorm they must spend several days together alone.

I really enjoyed this, the intellectual yet naive woman deciding she must know what is so special about love-making and determining that the only way to achieve that is by propositioning a man. The days that Jane and Xavier spend alone in the cottage are delightful and I would totally fall for him too.

If it hadn't been for the ridiculously OTT ending it would have been a four star review.

Captain Xavier Grey, from the first book, and Spinster Jane Downing.
