I could definitely see this book being made into a series! I’d love to see more of Chelsea’s exploits with ghosts.
I thought maybe the discussions of slavery, grappling with historical harms, and bullying could’ve been better. But overall, this book was so whimsical and charming! The mystery and reveal were intriguing, the ghost cat was too cute, and Chelsea was a fun, bombastic main character to follow along.

Set in New Orleans, a delicious blend of teen angst, painful history, and the meaning of family. I honestly really enjoyed this book, both the writing and the art was superb.
With that being said, here is some stream of consciousness that took me out of the story/made me uncomfortable, like the ghost of Maria. A Black servant who exists for no clear reason beyond family ties and still a living White woman to serve. Additionally, Chelsea’s friends exhibit microaggressions early on that are never addressed by Chelsea, themselves, or others. Not that this necessarily needed to be resolved, because that’s a life time of work, but the fact that Chelsea goes back to them after a summer growth (for her), made me sad. But, for both of these issues, maybe the reader being uncomfortable is part of the point.
Still, I really really enjoyed this book and will 100% be reading whatever this team puts out next!
