In this final instalment of the Cainsville series, a third, far more malevolent entity pushes old rivals together and forces them to collaborate in order to defeat it.

The good: Most of the loose ends are tied up, including little details that I'd almost forgotten about. We learn the truth behind the strange ritual elements in the Larsens' murders and how this whole situation unfolded in the first place. We also meet two utterly delightful dryads, full of whimsy and I wish they'd been part of the entire series.

The bad: Though Olivia is taking a "Persephone" approach, splitting her time between Cainsville's Tylwyth Teg and the Cŵn Annwn, she still makes a choice in the end! Ricky deserves better! We don't even see him in the epilogue even though the three have vowed not to let their relationships come between their friendships. I'm still salty about this.

Nevertheless, kudos to Kelley Armstrong for creating such an immersive world with a compelling cast of characters. I blew through this entire series in a week, and it was a thoroughly entertaining romp through supernatural crime-solving with mythological elements.

I'm not a big reviewer so this is just to sum up my thoughts.

I actually teared up at the end, cause I won't hang out with these characters anymore and I love them, I really do (well one in special
Spoiler Gabriel<3
).

Aside from that, every little thread is adressed and adressed well, couldn't wish for a better ending for this amazing series.

The end of the series is bittersweet.
This was my favorite book of the series, everything is revealed and we learn all the secrets.
Olivia and Gabriel become closer and Ricky is ok with that because he chooses to let Liv go so she could see where she belonged.

These three really do learn from the past and I think that is one of the best things this book taught us. Trusting in one another and not turning your back on someone really can bring you through.
The appearance of Gabriel’s mother was a shock. But also find out about Patrick too, I wasn’t expecting that. I can see why Patrick hates her so much.

I will say I didn’t see Pamela doing what she tried to do. Also it is a little odd having a “villain” with your name.
Sigh it ended perfectly I think.
Again I enjoyed the narration just the switch to another female narrator for a male part still confuses me.

This series started on a pretty high note and then just stair-stepped down with each of the five books. The writing is fair and she does a good job with her character development but the endless visions and the silly amount of abandoned buildings that they mysteriously get trapped in and the destiny love triangle... it borders on teenage obsession with scenes that say stuff like...this kiss was what my life was missing, they're in their 20s and 30s. And don't forget the obscene amount of Welsh/Gaelic/Greek characters, terms and just myths in general. It made no sense and maybe it wasn't supposed to but after five fairly long books I was looking for some sort of closure to a long and complicated story and ended up with very little.

That was a disappointing way to start off my reading year.

I have been waiting for this final book since Omens first came out. It's been a crazy ride but I think Rituals finished off the series nicely.

LIKES
- The romance was fantastic, as always. I could have used a little more though.
- The plot was full of the usual folklore which I never get tired of. It was interesting to see how all these events in Liv's life were tied together.
- The villain in this book was really interesting. I enjoyed seeing both sides work together for once because the whole darkness stuff was pretty creepy.
- Kelley has always been great at keeping the same vibe throughout her books. This one stayed mysterious and gothic until the very end! I'm looking forward to reading more Cainsville stories but I'm also sad the main ones are over.

DISLIKES
- I found Ricky wasn't in this book as much as he was in the others. I missed him but he was eventually there and I'm glad we got to see him with his cwn.
- There were some plot points that never got an ending. This probably means we'll be getting some more novellas but until then I'll be slightly annoyed.
- Some parts felt a little too drawn out while others were too short. Or maybe I was just really impatient to finish ;)
