I like this series, and can't wait to read the next book. Rhyan still owns my heart, but Lyr is one of those characters I just can't seem to connect to as much as I would love to.

I received an ARC for this book and as such, had to move book 1 up my TBR list and, geez, am I glad I did.
4.5/5 ONLY because I successfully, and confidently, predicted 2 major components of this series to date. I’d usually knock a book down a full star, HOWEVER, this book was fantastic, it deserves all 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed the ORIGINAL story line, creative problems, interesting political dynamics, a forbidden romance – this book has it all.
Again, the similarities in thoughts and feelings the FMC goes through that mirror modern day young women was spot on. Talk about conflicting emotions.
I ended the book with so many questions and predictions for upcoming books. Can I just say, Rhyan is in my top 5 for book boyfriends along with Rip/Slade/King Rot from Plated Prisoner. A man who values and understands taking care of one’s body through various forms of nourishment for body, mind and soul (meditation being a priority each morning – with coffee?!?! sign me up!). He is respectful to Lyr, all her varying emotions and her needs - he has my heart. Now if the slow burn, wasn’t sooooooooooooooooo slow…I’d appreciate it.

WHAT I LIKED:
This book occurs pretty much right after the last one. There is such a thrill with these books watching her having to balance her sisters, her royalty status, and her unknown result in weather or not she can pass the emperor’s test. There are multiple questions throughout this book, most of them are answered.. but the mystery of everything and the drama keeps you hooked.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
These books do keep you in suspense, but they also seem to take forever to get to the point. And just when you think you have finally found the answers you were looking for, you are left with more Cliff hangers. It’s a great storyline with too many unanswered questions.
OVERALL / RECOMMENDATIONS:
This is a good book, a good series so far… it is just one of those stories that may be enjoyed better if they were all read back to back. Now I am waiting on the next book so that I can hopefully get the answers I need.
