The gasp I gusped

The twist. You'll know it when you get to it. Dear lord I gasped out loud. Also this slow burn is EXQUISITE.

In the prior book, I asked for clearer world building or a plateau in world building and I'm pleased to report that in that respect, there was stability in that and I became clearer on the magic, the skills and the baddies.

This installment had more of a relationship focus than the fantasy plot. I liked how the author turned this triangle into a pair. It was done without malice, it had a natural evolving. I do really like the emerging couple together. The late reveal about a shared aspect of their lives was something I did not see coming at all. There were some other great twists too.

The trials for the FMC kept coming, similar to book one in terms of persistent intensity. That said, she started to believe in herself a bit. I feel like I need a bit less repetition for the next book but I don't know if I'll get that.

Overall, I'm still invested in this series and I'll be picking up book three soon while everything is still fresh in my mind.

This series is why I love to read. The characters, the world building, the mythology, the strife, the cruelty, the loss, the yearning…it’s friggen brilliant! The fact that I wanted to throw my iPad across the room on multiple occasions is always a sign of a good book, at least to me. So much stuff happens to poor Lyr. My god. This girl. This poor girl. Talk about having the rug pulled out from underneath you. When you have so many powerful people openly rooting for you to fail/die along with a secret organization trying to topple your family’s rule and specifically take you out all while dealing with a brutal training regime, a shitty boyfriend, feelings for your off limits mentor, troubled sisters…I mean, could anyone blame you for throwing your hands up in the air and just saying “fuck it, I’m out!I’m done!” Oh, and that’s not to mention the creeper ass immortal blue guy that keeps showing up saying weird stuff to you and staring at you like you’re a piece of meat. Look, Lyr has A LOT going on is this book. The slow burn romance between her and Rhyan is literally the SLOWEST burn EVER, but it’s SO good. This series is absolutely amazing and it’s only getting better as we go! So yeah, do yourselves a favor and read it. Go! Do it!

Loved!!!

Some bits felt a little dragged out. And it was a little annoying that everyone they had something serious happened it was followed with arousal/desire.

Panick attack? Arousal

Saved her? Arousal

Sometimes I just wanted them to be in that moment. Have more normal intimacy and bonding.

But still adored. 4.5 stars.

After being completely drawn into the first book and devouring the first two books in a matter of days, it is absolutely mind-boggling how this series doesn’t have more reviews, higher ratings and is barely mentioned.

Another great book, I am officially hooked! I just want more and more and more of these characters. Frankie Diane Mallis has done amazing work, will look forward to reading more of her work

This one was a bit better than the first, more action and plot. Infuriating romance that I don't super care about. There is a typo where the author uses breath instead of breathe. The author also has a. hard time with keeping time straight and often confuses her own timeline. I think she should have given her character more time or done more research into how quickly a human could realistically gain visible muscle.
More similarities to SJM I didn't mention in my review of the first one and some new ones:
- The same scene from ACOMAF happens when his magic goes crazy during a nightmare “I thought it was contained by me" actual quote from this book almost identical to ACOMF.
-Kashonim like carranam where they share magic through their link, in TOG, HOF.
-The 7 pointed star, just like the 8 pointed star in Crescent City and ACOSF.

Libby Kindle. 3.5 I liked it more than the first but the first half was so repetitive about the dang scars.
