I really enjoyed the first book and seeing Lyr struggle with protecting her family and lack of feelings for Tristan and hiding all these secrets while trying to survive + her crush on Rhyan but this book just... Felt like they had the same few interactions and conversations over and over again without much actual development. Things kept happening to and around her without her actually doing things. It felt like she just kind of fell from one scene to the next with no real purpose, and the only reason anything advanced was because Mercurial lived up to his name and would randomly show up to either play them or bail them out or both.

Not my favorite but I'll probably still give the next one a try.

I usually read 3 books at a time - audio, kindle, and a physical. It’s sometimes difficult for me to read fantasy against fantasy at the same time. But it’s 10x harder when I read fantasy against Brandon Sanderson fantasy. I still did it though because he’s not overly romantic & Mallis, filled that box for me. When
It came the pacing, antagonist scenes, tone… I found myself questioning it vs accepting it.

Don’t get me wrong, I already preordered book 3. >>>Shrugs<<< I’m a sucker for fantasy-romance.
