I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I am not sure where to begin with this review because I am still processing everything that happened and the INCREDIBLE story that just consumed my last few days. Seriously this is going to be one of my all time favorite series.

This is the second book in a new fantasy series that picks right back up where the first one ended. It was a flawless continuation, with little hints and reminders of the first one in case you need them. Returning to this world after a little break from the first one was so much fun. Plot twists, cliff hangers, romance, betrayal, hope, spice, a strong female MC; these books have it all!

One of the best parts of this book/series is the romance. Frankie Diane Mallis is the QUEEN of slow burn. The romance in this book was so deliciously slow and I could not get enough of Rhyan and Lyr in each scene. The heat did get turned up in this book!! This also has the “let me take care of you” trope within the forbidden love trope but it goes BOTH WAYS. Not just Rhyan taking care of Lyr but also Lyr taking care of Rhyan and those scenes were so beautifully written.

“…he was burning with fire now, flames threatening to consume me..”

I absolutely loved this book, the characters, and the magical world that Mallis has created. I am anxiously and impatiently waiting for book 3!

“Tear the f**king rope apart..”

If you haven’t read the first book yet, this is your sign-READ IT.

Lyr’s heart-wrenching, high-fantasy journey to becoming a Soturion despite being powerless and targeted by her family’s enemies (and some personal ones of her own!) is fantastic on its own. Add in the gripping love story between her and Rhyan, and what you’ve got is a book that truly has it all.

“Right or wrong, I'd break my oath a thousand times for you.”

I mean…how much more could you want?? This is everything we needed and more in a sequel. The forbidden romance, the tension, the pure emotion that I felt from these two. I could not put it down!!

Counting down the days until book 3…

This has become a new all-time favorite series! Cleopatra meets Throne of Glass with Fourth Wing vibes!

The fmc truly grows and struggles to gain every bit of strength, with all the odds stacked up against her. There are real consequences for her actions, and when she makes a mistake, they can be devastating.

The slow-burn and world building is just perfection

This book was charming and enchanting to read!

I was fortunate enough to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of this book (second installment of the series) and I absolutely adored this book! The author Frankie is a talented author with the way all the details and little pieces are wound through the book.

If you love fantasy and romance with amazing world building and forbidden love this is absolutely the book and series for you!

Absolutely anticipating (not patiently) the third installment!

4.2⭐️ SO much better than the first. And the ending!!!!!!!
adventurous slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series. The first book was great, the world is interesting, but this book had me bored for most of it. There was too much recap of the first book’s plot, and at 70% in I was still feeling meh about everything.
Cliffhanger ending.
