I'm guess you could say that I'm farther than Lethea for this series! I had the opportunity to read it as an ARC in exchange for a review, but I cannot wait to purchase it and reread it again as a final version. I was absolutely engrossed in the world of Lumeria once again, and I could not put this book down, just like the first!
Frankie has mastered filling us in on the details of the first book of the series, Daughter of the Drowned Empire, without boring us. My sieve-like mind is thankful for that, but so much of the world of Lumeria has stuck with me. However, if you're reading this review without having read the first book in the series, go read it. Stop reading this review. Pick up Daughter of the Drowned Empire. You will not regret it!
Hello there, character development, it's wonderful to see you happening and happening FAST. It's hard to even call it "character development" because Frankie's characters naturally unfold and grow throughout this book. Characters and plots advance much faster than I was expecting, and I fully support it. Characters showed themselves, their backstories, their hauntings, and their secrets. Oh and the secrets are SO GOOD. I'll leave it at that.
Lyr's growth has been phenomenal. I am here for it, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. She is fierce. Buckle up.
Rhyan is well...still my favorite and then some. I learned a ton about him this book, and I loved each second of it. Also I enjoyed spending more time with secondary characters, especially her sisters Meera and Morgana. Tristan is still around too. We also get to see more of Lyr's friends, Haleika and Galen. And of course, FUCKING Mercurial and the Imperator. I won't say any more.
I am eager and excited where the series will go as things are, to say the least, left in an interesting state at the end of this book. I have truly fallen in love with these characters and this magical world, and I highly recommend this book. Thank you for sharing your world of Lumeria and creativity with us again, Frankie!

This story is so captivating. I read the first book and couldnt wait to get into this book. This book did not disappoint at all. It was just as amazing as the first book. I love the depth to the characters and how this book took the story to a whole new level. I can not wait for the third book :)
Yes yes yes! She’s here, she’s doing the work, she’s starting to see her greatness
Frankie does it again! This is the second book in the Drowned Empire series and it had me in a chokehold! The first 15-20% was a little hard for me to focus on but there were a lot of outside factors keeping my attention when I began this book. After that I couldn’t part with it. This book starts off exactly where book 1 ends, so there are no missing gaps that you need to be filled in on. I feel like she did a really good job refreshing peoples memories of things that happened in DDE (book 1) so it isn’t entirely necessary for you to do a re-read of DDE. The development of Lyr’s character.. I’m here for it. The slow burn between Rhyan and Lyr.. here for it. There was the twist about who Lyr REALLY is, but there was plenty of foreshadowing that it wasn’t entirely a twist. The twist with who was actually leading the Emartis however.. WHAT?!?! I do not appreciate Mercurial being a sneaky sneak. I had high hopes that he was really good just trying to help Lyr realize her destiny, but tricking her into making a deal makes me feel like he’s not really a good guy. Guess we will have to wait til book 3 to get a better feel for him. Overall, I will be chasing the feels this book gave me probably until book 3 is released. AMAZING!!!.

I loved the dynamics between Ryhan and Lyr. Especially when he’s always encouraging her. The tables turned and she started encouraging him. It was beautiful to see that! Also, Mercurial! Lol. I was a little iffy about him in book one but I absolutely loved his character in book 2.
The ending gave me chills! All I can say is I KNEW IT!
“And when the time is right, you will strike and have your revenge. And then you will retake the throne of Bamaria.”
“We don’t have thrones here.”
Mercurial vanished, leaving behind only his feline grin. “You will.”
AHHHHHH!
I can’t express enough how much I feel in love with this series, THESE CHARACTERS. It’s crazy because I came across the first book by accident and bought it because I loved the cover. Frankie is just freaking brilliant.
If I EVER convince you to read a book, let.this.one.be.it. You won’t regret it!.

I do not have the right words to describe how incredible and amazing this book is.
If you have not read book 1 ‘Daughter of a drowned empire’ go do so for you need it in your life just like you need this book.
* It has a strong badass FMC who will do anything to protect those she cares about. And who doesn’t give up no matter what is thrown her way.
* A hot MC Rhyan Hart is up there with the rest of my book boyfriends/book husbands
*Forbidden love bodyguard/apprentice
*Forced proximity!!!
*Rhyan Hart gives off “you touch her and you die vibes” like I find that so attractive!!!!!
It will keep you coming back for more because this book/series was so beautifully written that it sucks you in and makes you not want to ever leave.
I need book 3!!!

Hello Lover,
I thought I loved the first book. But, no. I love this one way more. The suspense?! Lyr and Rhyan are my favorite forbidden duo. I desperately want to see a seraphim because I fear my imagination isn’t up to snuff. Lyr in my mind is a completely and total boss! Does what needs to be done and handles it with barely more than a morning coffee. The Emperor is a total jerk. And if I could punch the Imperator and BastardMaker I would. I’m so emotionally invested in this story.
I cannot wait for the rest of the story and I’m slightly furious I read it too fast.
