My. Gods. I love this series.

Lyr is not your typical “bad ass” FMC, in the sense that she can’t assassinate 5 armed guards without breaking a sweat, but the strength and fortitude that her character displays is a whole other kind of bad assery. She’s so relatable and her and Rhyan have so much delicious tension in the forbidden love category. The dynamic between those two is just perfect. Lyr and Rhyan both have secrets and skeletons in their closets… The way they learn to support and trust each other with them is what makes you love them.

This book never leaves you bored or skimming. There’s a constant undercurrent of worry while you try to figure out who’s a true friend/ally vs the wolves in sheep’s clothing. I suspected that not everyone was who they seemed to be, and I was not disappointed. The ending is climactic and there is a betrayal I wish I could say I never saw coming. Even though I kind of expected it, it didn’t stop me from yelling out loud when it was revealed. I can’t wait for the next book!

The emotional roller coaster I just went on, I…need time… I want to cheer and cry and need to prepare myself.

Book 2 in the Drowned Empire series is just as great as book one! I am not posting a full review since I want to avoid potential spoilers for book one, but if you enjoy fantasy/romantasy series with:
mythical creatures,
strong women, and
men that are simps for them,

I definitely recommend this series. Also, it is PERFECT for anyone with an Onyx Storm hangover. This series when I first read about it was Fourth Wing meets Cleopatra and I was like, we’ll see. No, that’s a legit description and the series began before FW! It has the military academy and mythical animals, with an Ancient Egypt meets Babylonia (in my head) atmosphere. It is NOT a rip-off as this series was out before FW so please don’t think that.

Again a lot of descriptions and world building that is good but tik much for me where it’s kinda boring so I skim through that to get to the good parts/conversations. But still is intriguing and the plot is interesting and makes me want to continue reading … also the recap of the first book was interesting that it was there… it kinda feels like she wrote them all and then split the books up and then did a “previously on…” like tv.. but book is becoming fastly addicting
