The author introduces the basics of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with practical exercises for making use of it. The exercises are generally mindfulness techniques, but that term isn’t used until well into the book. I’m a practitioner and big fan of mindfulness practices, so while the exercises weren’t necessarily novel for me I still found them helpful. The explanations are thorough and explained in simple language, but there is a good deal of repetition (which the author acknowledges) and a few dad jokes. As with many self-help books, many concepts and exercises are given acronyms or simple nicknames which are helpful for remembering but may annoy some. While I might feel silly, I’ll be repeating some of the exercises because I think they’ll prove helpful.
