I generally like Amy Poehler, but the relentless cheeriness of her perspective got on my nerves in this autobiography. This book contained a passage about sex where she cheerfully announces that she is good at sex and here's some advice, and then she says stuff like, "Don't worry about your body! Men are just happy to be there." There's a lot of stuff like that. Weird lists of advice that are trying very hard to be quirky and heartfelt. This book felt fluffy and like I didn't learn much about her.
funny

I have to be honest. I'm a huge SNL fan, and I like Amy. That said, Tina Fey is more my usual jam, so I thought, "Okay, I'll listen to Amy's book, but it won't be as good as Bossypants and I won't like it as much." WRONG! It is a great book. Amy is as funny in a book as she was on SNL, and the audiobook is especially great. She has various people stand in to read including her own parents and Seth Meyers, and it really is like a party in places.

I see a lot of people giving this four stars and saying they liked it. Go ahead and give her five stars. This is a classic.

It's not fair to review this before I finish, but unless the second half fails miserably, this is my rating. She is vulnerable and humble, but hilarious. I would like to be thought of this way, but I only have the "hilarious" part down. Haha. Just kidding.

DID NOT FINISH

The preface is the author complaining about how hard and painful it was to write a book. Similarly, it was not a joy to listen to. Even with the star studded guest readers. I gave up half way thru Chapter 7.

The first three chapters of this are absolutely hilarious and endearing. It gets less interesting from there but it's pretty solid all the way through. She gets into details of some things I'm not that interested in, and obviously now all the Louis CK references are less than appealing. All in all, if you like Any Poehler's comedy and activism, you'll like this book. She comes off as pretty authentic. I listened to the audio version and it doesn't even feel like she's reading. It just feels like a fun story time with Amy (and friends -- she has others on the recording as well).
