This was really good! Perfect for anyone dealing with self esteem issues. Meant for middle grades (maybe age 10-14) but I enjoyed listening as an adult.

Must read for teenage daughters and moms.

I think this is really a 4.5, I think it's a great, thought-provoking youth book and I appreciated how real and vulnerable and thoughtful it was. It made me sad but it still uplifted and I just wanted more in the end.

I'm usually not a fan of poetry, but as someone who had to deal with these issues as a tween/teenager the poems in this book were extremely moving and powerful.

5/5.

AARGHH. This filled me with boiling rage... for all the bullies, but especially the mom. I am NEVER talking to that mom again. GAWD!!!

V v good and so needed. Fatphobia is insidious and frickin everywhere. Someday we'll have justice and people will be able to relax about differently shaped humans. MAMMA MIA.

This book hurt so much because of how real it is. I used to be Ellie and reading this had me crying so hard because damn. It's been so long since I've felt these things I almost forgot what it was like. Starfish is an amazing novel-in-verse that I think everyone should read.
