Just not really the book for me.
The Selection Battle Royale
This book was quick to read though I did often find myself having to re-read portions to fully understand them. If you liked The Selection and The Hunger Games then you'll likely enjoy this mashup.

This book was a whirlwind.
So I can definitely see why this book is being seen as similar to the Hunger Games. They are both full of multiple young adults competing for a prize. The differences are this one is only girls, and they are all fighting for the hand of the prince.
So slightly difficult to get into. Starts off very confusing, like it wasn’t explained thoroughly enough for me. Even throughout the book I was still questioning the hierarchy of the kingdom.
Once you got past the 50% mark you get more into it. The trials/tests that they have to do seem a little extreme. And the cruelty of some of the girls competing is mind blowing. Overall it is an intriguing storyline so far. I’m still not sure why certain things have happened but hopefully it’s explained more clearly in the next books.

3.5 good but not that good. this books is literally a copy of the selection with elements of what i think is the hunger games. the mc is kind of annoying, ryce seems like a fake douche and its kind of funny how all the other girls hate the mc, but i love prince kevon and that's all that matters
I really enjoyed this read! I had just finished "The Culling" by Tricia Wentworth and jumped right into this book. The Princess Trials had everything the "The Culling" was missing!
I will warn you there are a lot of twists and turns in this book, it gets pretty crazy and intense and no breaks, but after reading a very slow paced series with very little intrigue, mystery, and danger, it was just what I needed to read!
I really only had one issue with this book at this time, her constant " Just wait until...." mentality about when the resistance takes over.
The romance has a nice pace to it, she has a boy she's been crushing on back home and doesn't immediately fall for the charm of the prince like you'd normally expect from a book of this type.
This reminded me of some elements of the hunger games. The structure of the society and the way the upper society dresses and their mannerisms is very hunger games-esque.
I am already jumping into book two!

Ugh! A wannabe of The Selection series. Good potential, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone else. Too many plot holes, not enough clarity, and I just didn't care about the characters!
This book should be making major waves. It was that good.
The Princess Trials makes The Selection look shallow and underdeveloped.
I said what I said.
Let's make this clear: I am a fan of The Selection series. I will read anything that is considered similar to that premise. Even though I like The Selection, it wasn't exactly great but it was cute and fun enough to be the tasty book candy I couldn't wait to devour.
The Princess Trials had a lot more meat to it. I came away from the story with a good understanding of the world building and impressed with the plot. Sure, there are some tropes readers will recognize and expect but I believe they were efficiently done.
I can't wait for the next book. I mean that a thousand times over.
