The simplicity of the language and the seeming paucity of plot disguise a powerful narrative architecture. It's obvious that there isn't a word out of place; what becomes clear as the voice gathers familiarity is the surety, the universality, of Wood's moral inquiry. When it was finished, I started it over and listened again to the first quarter or so of the book. This clarified the ways certain thoughts and impressions echo and ripple through the narrative, the way the book hums with meaning.

a very introspective sort of read wherein u (or at least thats how it felt to me) end up thinking a lot abt ur own relationship to grieving/forgiveness. the mc also seemed to place a lot of blame on herself for things she actually did (ie bullying) as well as expectations she didnt live up to (like with the conservation stuff). one of the reviews of the book said something about kindness, and i agree that it seems to promote a sort of kindness towards yourself by not constantly punishing yourself (or others by forcing them to absolve you of your guilt).
