Across the Universe is one of my new favorite books. It's so thrilling and I couldn't stop reading. It's a sci-fi sort of love story that is still action packed and mysterious.

The book begins many years in the future where a young 17 year old girl and her parents are being cryogenically frozen to be put aboard a spaceship and flown to a new planet to begin a new life.....but the planet is 301 years away. Which means being frozen in a chamber, stuck with your thoughts and fears for 301 years. Sounds like the ultimate torture. The story alters thoughts between Amy in her chamber, and Elder, a leader in training aboard the spaceship (Godspeed) some 290 years in the future. But when someone wakes up Amy a little earlier than scheduled from her Cryo Chamber... She is devastated to find her self aboard the bustling ship Godspeed, instead of her new planet Centauri Earth. She befriends Elder and a few other members of the ship, Things are run very different here on Godspeed and as she learns the adjust to the artificial sun and recycled air, there are murders happening to the some 500 other frozen people from earth. Someone aboard Godspeed is pulling them out of their chambers to be left for dead. As Amy and Elder race to find the killer, and the many secrets that Godspeed holds, they have a spark between each other, and Amy decides if she's ready to love a new boy.

It's an overall wonderful and great book and I definitely recommend it. Don't forget to read the sequel, A Million Suns, and the prequel, Shades of Earth. It's my new favorite trilogy series.

Well, I guessed who the killer was right off. However, there were three other plot twists that I never saw coming. By the way, there are a lot of plot twists in this book, which (imo) is a good time. Some readers complain about the shifting perspectives, but I enjoyed it and thought it was fitting for the story. This book is the first in a series that I will definitely be continuing. In other words, I can't get my hands on the next book fast enough! And have you seen that cover? Gorg!

Exciting, interesting, inventive! And finally, a book with characters I actually care about. I did solve the big mystery quite quickly at the first hint, but the book was still good enough to take me to the end to watch the characters figure it out too. The alternating point of view was done really well too. Overall: Lovely!

Wow. Weird, but good.

5 frexing stars.

This is one of my all time favorite books now. ALL TIME FAVORITE. I loved it so much, I can't even describe it. There are so many secrets and lies, chaos and betrayal. There were many parts where I cried my eyes out and had to take a while to absorb WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED. I really recommend it if you love sci-if and, well, I just recommend it in general.

Again, I read the ebook version of this.

The description hints at a romance, but really, the romance is quite subtle. Yes, Amy and Elder do fall in love. But the farthest it goes is a kiss or maybe two. The real romance is in the way she trusts him completely.

The plot has a few shockers along the way, but they didn't shock me. I felt like they were somewhat predictable. Anyone could tell that Eldest was suspiciously evil. And Orion was just messed up.

Yet the book presents a lot of interesting view points. For example, Eldest says that there are 3 causes of discord: Differences, (I can't remember this one), and individual thought. To be honest, that is completely true. However, it is precisely because of those things that harmony can be achieved.

Loď mezi hvězdami mě bavila, i když nemůžu říct, že bych z ní byla přímo nadšená. Čekala jsem, že příběh bude o něco napínavější. Navíc nemám moc ráda klasické sci-fi, a možná i proto mi tam některé věci úplně neseděli.
