This book captures a lot of things that have once been mass talk or whispers in society today. The great thing about this book is that Beth has a tale that surrounds all of these hidden topics and the tale is so engrossing and so beautiful that you keep turning the page. It was one of those books I did not expect myself to enjoy much and rather considered it to be a challenge that I wanted to put myself through. Surprisingly, I enjoyed every bit of it. It's written better than most YA books I've encountered in that I don't feel like a twelve year old sat down and wrote it. There is also a lot of symbolism and hidden meanings behind a lot of things going on in our society that people would catch on to if they read this enchanting story. I can't wait to read more fro Beth in the future!

*4.5/5*

I was looking forward to reading this book for a while now; from people on Goodreads raving about it to all the Booktubers on Youtube praising it, I thought I have to get my hands on this. And maybe because I have a thing for space, sci-fi and the Beatles (the title, duh) I shouldn't have hyped myself up so much- but I'm really glad I did and that I went in a bit blind, not fully knowing the whole gist of the storyline.

I thought the plot was quite extensive and really intricate and even though it took a while for everything to come together, I'm glad I had a little bit of time to fully get to know both protagonists (Amy and Elder). This way there was character development and actions on both parts that made sense, not coming out of nowhere. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars was because I didn't get invested enough in Elder and Amy, this is the only aspect I wish I was given more of...and I'll leave it at that to not spoil anything ;)

Nevertheless if you want a new YA dystopian, sci-fi book to get into I would definitely recommend this. It's really different from anything I've read before and I loved that you do get a lot more gritty science-fiction in this than other novels!

4½-5 stars.

Great story, surprisingly low on teen angst compared to other sci fi YAs I've read (at least lately). Listened to the audio - Elder's voice was difficult to listen to, due to the reader's strange reading style. Amy's voice made the book. The premise of attempted murder of the cryogenically frozen while hurtling through space is very original and very well executed. There are flaws, certainly, but I'm eager to read the next book.

pretty descent. at first I thought, this is basically Orphans of the Skies but not as good. But by the last bit of the book the story becomes pretty interesting, and not entirely predictable. It's maybe not quite 4 stars, but not far off.

I was reading through the reviews and got the feeling that this book wasn't as good as many people thought it would be! I Disagree with this! I thought it was a very good plot with a unique scene, and it included all the emotions! I liked the ending as well!!
adventurous challenging emotional inspiring mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I loved this book! It really captured my attention, the end especially was great! I would definitely recommend it!

a bit predictable. halfway through the book i figured out it was Orion, that he was the Elder that was supposed to have died but didnt. i could tell because of the scar on his neck and how he always avoided Eldest and Doc. Also there was no other explaination as to who was getting in when the bio scanner thing said elder/eldest all the time so i assumed it was the previous elder.

i was so sad when harley died
and the Season totally disusted me :&

When the publishers made the first chapter of Across the Universe available as a teaser, I was drawn in. When they said it was the best first chapter you’ll ever read, they were not kidding! I waited impatiently for the book to come out. I actually grabbed it off the shelf and shrieked, “Mine!” before I could stop myself. The rest of the chapters have not disappointed!

Amy’s parents are important people who will be frozen for a 300 year journey to a new planet. Amy wants to be with them, but is having second thoughts. She has a boyfriend and a life and is not sure she wants to give that up. She watches her parents go through the freezing process before she steps into the box herself. The writing of the freezing process is terrifying and intense. It reminded me about Neal Shusterman’s Unwind, where he writes the horrifying chapter where he explains the unwinding process. Amy is awakened, prematurely by an unknown person who wants some of the frozen passengers dead. Her red hair and pale skin stand out against the olive skinned, dark haired passengers who after generations of inbreeding look alike. She navigates this strange space, dystopia with the help of Elder, the ship’s future leader. There is something very wrong with the passengers of the ship, Godspeed. It is almost like they are drugged. Amy and Elder must try and learn the ship’s secrets before more people, like her parents, are unplugged and killed.

Beth Revis kept the mystery going throughout the story. I wanted to know the ship’s secrets. The ending made it seem like a sequel was coming, but it could stand on its own. I thought the pacing was good. It was bleak and creepy. Dystopian fans will enjoy it!
