I listened to this one on audio, the two people who narrated for it were great. It is a bit of a change from my usual sci-fi, dystopian books I pick in that it is in space. I loved the vast alone feeling that you get as the story progresses even though they are something like 2 thousand people on Godspeed ( the name of the ship). It had good timing and great setting. I am unsure if I want to read the second as I am unsure how she (the author) will give back hope.

SIDE NOTE: If you are looking for a 'clean read' teen book this is not it.

Very good.

this book disturbed me beyond belief

I really liked the idea behind this book, the subject was something new that I've never read before. Made me think a lot about certain things that happened in our world or that are happening right now. Also, about the future! I really appreciate that!!

But for some reason, I couldn't quite connect with the main characters or the plot itself. It didn't fully "sucked" me in as some other books did. It might have been because of the fact that I knew who was the "bad guy" right from the beginning or some other unknown reason but that is why I only gave this read 3 stars.

Still, I'm glad I read it!

The pacing really lagged for me, though possibly I'm just tired of the Freedom over Conformity theme. While I thought "predictable," I recognize that it would be an approachable and engaging read for other readers.

One of the most creative stories I have read lately! I absolutely loved the characters and plot. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I just felt something was lacking. Though I honestly can't say what... But 4 stars feels right to me!

Es un poco extraño pero en verdad mola es una tematica tipo distopica

3.5* - I found myself pulled so far in to Across the Universe that I finished the book in the space of a weekend. I could tell right away who the "murderer" was but there were some twists I was not expecting. The future world aboard the spaceship is so interesting and I like how Revis reveals little bits of information here and there and instead of explaining how things work all at once with a giant info-dump. Guess I've got to read the second book in the series to find out what happens next.

The first chapter of this book was so interesting and exciting that i was positive the story was going to be amazing. However, after the first chapter about 2/3 of the book was slow and frankly boring.

But as in most cases the last 70 pages or so really picked up and became exciting and very captivating. It was somewhat predictable, yet still managed to surprise me. After i finished the book i was left with a feeling of closure and a curiosity to know what happens next.

I will be reading the second book, but not soon.

Solid 3.5 for me, more than a 4.

The first few pages honestly almost made me ill. Not a terrible thing - the description of being prepped for cryo sleep were exceptionally detailed and traumatic to me. I loved the concept and the mystery aspect of the plot. I think the thing that brought it down from a full 4 was the romance. I don't object to romance in my science fiction (far from it!), but I just didn't "feel it" for this couple as much as I had hoped. With that said, I think that the target age range for this book WOULD like this facet of the tale.

Science concepts: Space travel, cryogenics, genetics

Historical Tie-in: I have to be a little careful here, as I don't want to give away the whole plot. But I can safely say that you'll find this book would pair very well with any study of the role of dictators in history. It would also go with any discussion of revisionist history or population control.

Age range: Firmly YA - Sex and mating is a major theme in the story - though it isn't overly graphic.
