It was good, and I got through it really quickly once I got into it. However, I don't feel any strong desire to read any of the other books in the series. While I feel like I should read the rest, I'm not itching to know what happens next in all honesty.

I heard a lot of good things about Across the Universe so I was slightly let down when I read it. It took me a while to get into at first as not a lot happened during the first 60ish pages. When things did start going I found it weird, not as weird as Gone but almost. The whole thing with the season made me feel uncomfortable (I am rather innocent but still) and I felt the relationship between Amy and Elder was forced. Elder was in love with her after only seeing her once whilst she was frozen, he was a bit pervy if you ask me. Overall I think the idea was great but going about it a different way would have been better, I will probably read the sequel but I won't go out of my way for it.

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

Everybody has read this book. Like seriously everybody. And I also only heard good things so when I saw it in the library I just had to get it.

THE WORLD: I would say rather complicated. So we are on the huge ship which is traveling to the new planet to basically colonize it. That will take about 350 years. Don't ask me why they need to colonize it, no idea. Anyways, so all high class scientists and military and frozen in these tanks till they read the new planet. In the meantime we have people that live on the ship, aka the carriers basically. So now we are 300 years in the journey. Everybody who lives there were born on the ship, nobody has actually seen the earth. Basically everything is decided by the Eldest who is literary the eldest of his generation because wait for it...reproduction is actually regulated and seasoned. Very creepy. Anyways, so that is that. Everybody is basically working on their tasks their whole life and so on and the whole ship and the world in this book is just bizarre and well nonsense. I study science and believe me when I say that it is complete science fiction.

CHARACTERS: So there are two main characters: Amy and Elder (Eldest in training). Let me just tell you from the start - I had zero care for any of them. Basically Amy gets unfrozen before her time and is all "what is happening?". Elder tries to find out who did it and also be a good dog following the eldest. Okay this is actually painful to write about them. Basically let me sum it up: they both are super stupid and oblivious and just don't know, if such people were to start human population on colonized planet that I am lucky not to be there. Seriously, terrible just terrible characters.

LOVE: So obviously because Elder never saw anybody like Amy before (all people on the ship look the same) he insta falls in love with her. Blah.

PLUS: It was really funny reading how Earth history was twisted for manipulation. Hitler was the best dude ever, America basically eliminated the black skin people and all that. And Amy never picked up on that...like seriously girl, how stupid are you?

MINUS: This book is just pure ridiculousness for me.

OVERALL: Read it and would be glad to forget about it. Never picking up any of this series books again.

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

I listened to this as an audiobook, and I can't tell if that made the lazy writing more or less noticeable. I liked the idea of this book and the mysteries, but it was almost always set at a frantic emotional pace that just wore me out. I do not think I will read the sequels.

I am really interested in this story. I want to see the planet that they get to. I cant believe they aren't moving and Eldest is crazy. I just feel like she was upset at him for looking at her and that's fine that's not great but he being the reason that she was defrosted, it seems like an honest mistake. But the ship is honestly messed up. No wonder she doesn't want to hang out with all of them and also they are not great to her. Elder doesn't help though.

More like 2.5 stars. It's definetely the strangest YA dystopian novel I've read so far. Not quite sure what to make of it.

You can probably decipher my feelings on this book if you notice that I started it in March and finished it in July. It just could not hold my attention.

The basic idea of the story is that Amy is supposed to be frozen for 300 years while a spaceship takes her, her family, and many others to start a new earth in space somewhere, but Amy is unexpectedly woken up early. Dystopian chaos ensues.

The concept was a good one, in my opinion. Execution? Not so much. It's written in alternating first person between Amy and the main guy, Elder. It was really hard for me to understand and like either of the two main characters when the pov was changing every two pages. Other than that, I just couldn't get swept up in the story.

I know there's a sequel out now. Maybe someday I'd pick it up, but right now I'm not interested.

I've been watching the show The 100, so spaceships carrying thousands of people for hundreds of years is interesting to me.
Some things I didn't like about the book: cosmic slang, like shite, frex, brilly, an attempted rape scene, Elder leering at frozen Amy in her cyro tank, and obvious clues.

I liked trying to figure out what the truth was and the motivations behind each character's actions. I had to keep reading to find out what happened at the end. The book raises good scientific ethics questions that make you think. I'm a sucker for dystopian fiction. Overall, it was an enjoyable book.

Overall impression:
There were some major problems with Across the Universe that I just couldn’t see past whilst reading. I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series.
