While I'm sure I could find flaws if I really looked for them I had to give this book 5 stars simply because I could not put it down. I read this book in two days and if I had not been taking care of a sick child I would have read it in one. Was just such a good story and very different from the books I normally read. I hope the rest of the series is just as good.

The premise of freezing people to send them to another planet that will take 300 years to get to AND THEN having one of the characters wake up 50 years too soon was definitely intriguing. I loved the idea of it....however it kind of started off slow and overall was pretty slow-paced. Although the setting was unique and interesting, it didn't feel much different than any other YA dystopian. Haven't decided if I want to check out the rest of the series.

I was saving this for my holiday in May but I didn't have any other books to read so I broke into my holiday book section. I can honestly say I am so happy I picked up this book! It was thrilling and a bit strange in parts but It just made it more exciting. I'm just gonna say it should not be for readers aged 13 and below because there are detailed smut scenes! I loved the relationship between Elder and Amy. It wasn't too big or anything but it had the romance when needed. Only bad thing about this book is that in parts it did repeat a little but that was only a few paragraphs. I'll be sure to pick up book number 2 soon!

Elder is such a kid. I totally hated him. Everything is predictable and WTF with science in this book. I mean, there's a lot of nonsensical stuff.

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate this beautiful book cover?
thanks. It's just breathtaking.

About the book - I enjoyed reading it and loved all of the twists and surprises.
I liked most of the characters, even if they're not that special - but Amy is a pretty strong female character, so there's that.
What really got me hooked, was that I couldn't tell what was going on at all sometimes - normally I'm pretty good at guessing what's going to happen, but this series is just full of plot twists. I LOVED THAT!
I don't know how many times I just sat there like

so yeah - if you enjoy young adult/sci-fi/dystopian novels, this is a series you should definitely check out!

I loved this book. The first chapter is a hook, it’s strange and has the sci-fi weirdness that I love. I’m a big fan of secrets on secrets and trying to figure out what was going on was fun. I had trouble a few times picturing the size of the ship and had to refer to the layout map at the beginning but I guess that’s what it’s there for. It didn’t stop me from turning the pages. (I also didn’t love family/sexual relationships but neither does the main character).

There has been a lot of hype about this book and I admit, what with it being a YA sci-fic, it was a story I was expecting to blow me away. However, while it wasn't the astronomical read I thought it would be, it was none the less, a book I enjoyed.

The story begins with seventeen year old Amy. After watching her parents be frozen in preparation for their centuries long journey to find and establish life on a new planet, Amy makes the monumental decision to accompany them - Knowing that when she once again reopens her eyes, she will be reunited with them on a new world. At least, that was what was suppose to happen.

But when she is awoken fifty years too early, she finds herself alone. A stranger and outcast on a starship where the people all look the same, the sane are considered crazy and the sun "rises" with the press of a button. But Amy's early awakening was no coincidence. Someone on board is set against murdering the still frozen members of the expedition, including Amy's parents.

Along with 16 year old Elder, the ships future leader in training, Amy sets herself the task of protecting the frozens. But catching the culprit before he can murder again is another matter entirely. However as Amy is soon to learn, the ship, Godspeed, holds many secrets, each one more unpleasant than the next. Everything she's ever known, the life she once lived, has been lost forever. And although she has yet to realise it, she still has so much more left to lose...

This book has a great concept that is both fresh and extremely intriguing. Beth Revis creates a believable world and an eerie atmosphere on a ship that runs much like a dystopian society. With corrupt leadership and people unable to think freely, these elements combined together to make an intricate plot of lies and deception that made the book a fascinating read.

The characters of Amy and Elder were very well written and both were easy to relate to. While I didn't feel much of a spark between them romantically, I felt like a good foundation was built for one to grow on. Also I'm interested to see how their relationship will develop, especially given the rather dramatic ending, and Elders obvious interest.

So overall Across the universe was a unique and interesting read that I would recommend to anybody wanting something a little different. Futuristic, spacey and with plenty of thrills thrown in, I would rate this a 3 1/2 star read!

Fantastic!!!

For some reason it remains me of "The Host" :S

EEEKK!!!! This book :)

Let me drink a cup of water before i start to review.
Oh God! That was incredibly fascinating book! My favorite topics- space travel, dystopian future)) The ideas, the story, the characters are fantastic! Especially the marvelous plot! I haven't enjoyed reading YA fiction as much as this book since Rick Riordan books. And that book kept me on the edge, sleepless and made my heart break into tiny pieces...
Amy: She was great character! One of the best characters in YA fiction. She is clever, independent, reasonable, brave. Really brave.
Elder: Oh-huh. I liked him first. Then came his lustful thoughts about Amy. I don't judge him really, he was brought up like this. But then the ending! Why?? Okay, maybe he will be great in the next books.I want to love him.
Harley: Oh my little fish! Oh my.. He is fantastic character! My favorite..
Eldest- dictator freak!
Doc- emotionless stupid!
Orion: Go to hell!(freezing hell, uhahahaha)
I give it all my stars! Great, great, great!
PS: I figured out the antagonist before the first half of the book. I am genius :P okay maybe not, as I see everyone found out it)
AGAİN PS: İ almost forgot the "armenian genocide" issue....i hope it was not intentional. That is why maybe I better give it 4,5 stars(
