The story realized it was spread too thin. It gave Yelena one central, meaningful crisis and that focus paid off. Even when the world felt messy and overstuffed, the choice to let her friends solve problems independently while she dealt with what only she could handle felt earned. It reinforced the strength of the ensemble without weakening her arc.

I think I read this too soon after the previous two in the series and did not enjoy it as much. There is a lot of repeated story line to catch people up who are reading this stand alone. I found it duller and less interesting with ver6 rapid out of the blue solutions at the last minute to several problems and dangers.
