Esta obra es romanticismo puro. En los personajes (sobre todo Mathilda) por su carácter desgarrado, extremo en sus sentimientos; por la importancia de la naturaleza siempre salvaje y metáfora del alma humana; y en la oscuridad en todos los sentidos tanto en los sentimientos prohibidos como en el paisaje como en lo exagerado de los sentimientos. A pesar de que está turbulencia y exageración en todo no lo contrario convierten en mi tipo de hist ria favorita, hay que reconocer que las descripciones y la prosa son muy bellas, fluidas, detalladas y muy elegantes. Solo ya por esto se merecen una lectura.
I'm a big fan of Mary Shelley and her language is beautiful but also her stories are very unique. Matilda was one of these stories, weird topic to explore, nonetheless. I know it's controversial but I'm wondering if I would think it was implying incest if I hadn't known that. To me it seemed more that the father was simply trying to find his love again after his wife died and that came through his daughter. Not sure it was carnal type of love.

1.- Teniendo en cuenta que es una obra póstuma porque se encontró con toda la censura del mundo, y que probablemente no esté tratada con la atención que se le daría a un libro que se pretende publicar, es bastante increíble a nivel estilístico

3.- Es gracioso que, cuando se trata de libros góticos y/o de terror, los escritos por hombres tiendan a hablar de miedos abstractos, indecibles, luchas del ser humano contra lo sobrenatural y lo sublime y el deseo de trascendencia y los escritos por mujeres tiendan a hablar de abusos y traumas y experiencias reales o, al menos, bastante verosímiles. 5.- Pensándolo bien, es increíble que esto se escribiera en una época en la que no existía nada parecido a la psicología. Creo que es el único libro de ese período que conozco con el que resulta fácil empatizar desde la perspectiva contemporánea
6.- Si estuviera escrito en el siglo XXI se habría titulado Trastorno De Estrés Postraumático - Una Novela y sería lectura obligatoria para sáficas tristes que subrayan los poemas de Alejandra Pizarnik

4.2- La sensación de aislamiento y de separación radical con respecto al resto del mundo cuando has pasado por una experiencia horrible de cuyo recuerdo no puedes librarte y que, sin embargo, no puedes compartir con nadie más
4.3.- El abismo mental de egoísmo, desconfianza, pánico, ansiedad por separación, pensamientos intrusivos, necesidad de reafirmación constante, negatividad o conductas autodestructivas al que pueden arrastrarnos las experiencias traumáticas; y que nos impide socializar de forma sana y nos lleva a perpetuar (o profundizar en) el malestar

I went in completely blind apart from the line long description on the cover so I had no idea what to expect.
Yes the main story is taboo (but also not as much as I pictured it) but god Mary could write! I’ve never read Frankenstein so it was my first try reading her work and I was hooked by her writing. So much emotion.
I didn’t see the way the story evolved coming at all.
CW: obviously for incest (but FYI he only confesses his feelings there’s nothing physical) but also the subject of suicide is very present during the second half of the story.
Obviously not for everyone but I loved it.

Obviously not for everyone but I loved it.
This is more a dark/melancholic emotional story that happens to blossom due to incestuous feelings, rather than an erotic/incestuous relationship as people portray. A man that acknowledges his feelings towards his daughter and acts knowing that those feelings are wrong and deserving of punishment. The story is told through the point of view of Matilda, the daughter, and how she deals with this discovery.
I find Mary Shelley to have a really poetical writing style. The way she paints with words, the things inside and outside of what makes us humans.
